Best New Indie – X JUNO & Sharky, Bathe Alone, Yasha 96, Boy Ferguson

Your summer promenade stroll just got a little punchy funk and jive courtesy of Paranoia, the new single from X JUNO and Sharky.  Paranoia is simply infectious.  It’s excitingly left of center, as the dissonant verses recall funk’s influence on art pop.  The textured tones tickle your ears and percolate your senses.

Melodically you can hear the influence of CHIC and The Talking Heads and how they inspired recent movements in indie pop.  Stylistically it connects with recent releases by Biig Piig and Grouplove.  We find it irresistible.  Grab your skates, plug in your headphones, and let it ride.  Maybe a little puff to amplify the Paranoia?  Keep Groovin’.

Bathe Alone – Victims

Buzz songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Bathe Alone recently dropped her new album I Don’t Do Humidity.  The indie pop breakthrough is worth the buzz.  Her arrangements are consistently intriguing.  She bring an innovative creative reverence to everything she does.  There’s just enough psych to her indie pop aesthetic to keep it expressive, but the catchy brilliance never relents.

The album’s single Victims fits the description.  You can hear a bit of MGMT, Tame Impala and Tennis in its sonic aura.  She offers that influence to the world of indie pop gracefully in a way that will connect with fans of more commercial acts like Holly Humberstone and Remi Wolf.  We’re big fans.  Dig into all of the album.

Yasha 96 – If I Were A Girl

We like weird.  We like odd.  On a lot of levels that might be how you feel about If I Were A Girl, the new single from Yasha 96.  What’s really weird and odd though is how this just strikes us as fantastic.  Something about the singers performance in the video just resonates with us.

This is our kind of people, a little insane and lost in their feelings.  It infects every part of their existence.  Frankly, they have no chill.  It’s in the song too.  If I Were A Girl is simply infectious in lyrically unique.  Did he make you feel funny?  We hope he did.

We got lost in the abstract soulful indie pop aura of Grown Man, the new single from Boy Ferguson.  There’s a candid sense of discovery to this kind of composition that we adore. That detail is well reflected in the performance.  A clever sonic design honors the songs abstract arrangement.

Stylistically it recalls that elusive vibe known to Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, and more recently Bon Iver.  We can also hear a bit of Hozier in the artists soulful delivery.  It’s a rare dose of indie pop that speaks to the soul in a way that brings everyone together.
