Best New Indie – OSKA, Deion Gill, A Days Wait, Monotronic

We love the poetic imagery heard in the lyrical collage of Forever Blue, the new single from OSKA.  The artists blesses her poetic musings with a catchy melodic brilliance.  Everything is in its right place on this dynamic triumph.  Every verse offers an effective ascension towards the chorus, which features a haunting hook that truly gets under your skin.

The more you tangle yourself within her poetry the more you see yourself in its assimilations.  It resonates with the eastern philology that Life Is Suffering.  Give yourself to it and be delivered.  Stylistically we hear similarities to the work of Boy Genius or HAIM.  It’s freaky catchy.

Deion Gill – Role Model

Whelp, that’s an anthem.  Deion Gill strikes gold with his new single role model.  There’s a slacker reverence to this vibe that cites late 90s one hit wonders.  A sensibility familiar to little black backpack or sex and candy.  That’s not a bad place to be.  There’s a timeless youthfulness to this vibe, a gorgeous relatability that forces friends to scream out of tune at some trendy local bar.

Maybe that’s not what he had in mind when he dressed it with the abstract sonic appeal of JOJI, but it should come to terms as a happy accident.  We have no doubt it will catch on.

So Far Along – A Days Wait

We love the contrast of hopeful and melancholy heard on So Far Along, the new single from A Days Wait.  There’s an emotional yearning to this vibe. It’s enhanced by the hypnotic vocal performance.

There’s a sentiment of charming heartbreak, resonating with a vibe that launched now iconic indie breakthrough The Shins.  They combine that with the catchy dream pop appeal familiar to Day Wave. It won’t take you too long to fall for it.  It’s an addictive aura you simply can’t get enough of.

Monotronic – Sun Song

NYC based project Monotronic is catchy to their core.  Their new single Sun Song proceeds a legacy of ear catching melodies heard in their collective catalog.  They have a way of wearing their influences just enough to tickle your curiosity.  It’s a testament to how they blend stylistic polarities excitingly.

On Sun Song we hear a bit of Pete Yorn mixed with War On Drugs and how both projects cites an inspiration of 80s pop rock.  It’s hard not to be ear catching within that aesthetic.  It’s a timeless aura.
