Emerging Folk – Roberta Faceplant, Mark Edgar Stuart, Billy Keane, The All Night Chemist, Catch A Dinosaur

There are a few different versions of Roberta Faceplant but we think the rodeo cowgirl adaptation might be our favorite.  The new single Yee Haw Stuff is their best release yet.  It’s a bourbon fueled boot kicking inspired tirade that honors a flurry of female country heroes.

The band brings the proper rolling train thunder without ever crowding the arrangement, leaving space for their singer Katie Feeney to stand out proper.  She owns the limelight without ever resolving to over singing.  It’s a testament to her experience within the scene.  The songs a banger and they do the composition justice.  The band has some funky roots too.  It serves their adaptation into the world of alt country. Historically Nashville’s 60’s and 70’s bands could really groove. Yee Haw Stuff is a sure thing for fans of first wave Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and and Loretta Lynn.  Have fun with it.

Mark Edgar Stuart – The Ballad of Jerry Phillips

We love the rare nostalgic nature of The Ballad of Jerry Phillips, the new single from Mark Edgar Stuart.  The artists captures a lost era.  The vibe cites an influence of Dr John, Leon Russel, and Levon Helm.  There’s a bit of ragtime to his Americana spirit, and some New Orleans flair courtesy of the busty horn heard on the back end of the instrumental section.

A banging performance at its core, the on theme recording style adds to the classic feel.  The band is legit, keep a look out for them.

Billy Keane – front porch swing

Billy Keane is aiming to break hearts with his new single front porch swing.  The legacy of Gram Parsons gets an indie folk Americana feel on this inspired performance.  Stylistically it could connect with fans of Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, and Ray LaMontagne.  That’s a great place to be.  It’s a timeless soulful sound we can’t get enough of, and Bill Keane delivers the goods.

A little about our crush Billy swiped right from his bio: From college dropout to world traveler to commercial deep sea diver, from touring musician to socially minded entrepreneur, Billy Keane’s path has been a winding one, and one which he has experienced through the eyes of a singer songwriter of a unique kind.

He’s owns our hearts.  Hear front porch swing now on our Emerging Folk Playlist

It doesn’t happen often, but we fell in love with a song over how it made us laugh, over how we related to the fun lyrical references that remind us of helpless characters in our own life.  That song is Billy’s Back At The Bar, the new single from The All Night Chemist

There’s a classic shanty feel to the arrangement, it suits the ironic narrative. It’s a genuine tribute too, but it can’t help itself.  It is what it is.  You laugh and your cry over the drunks at the bar but rock bottom often comes to them all.  Zone in on these lyrics, you won’t be disappointed.  Sing along, or sing a different song, it’s all the same to Billy.

Catch A Dinosaur – Friend Of The Devil

We got a new cover of Friend of the Devil and gosh darnitt we like it.  We came into it thinking we wouldn’t because we adore the original so much, but Catch a Dinosaur finds a fresh feel within this classic composition.  It sounds like a Levon Helm version produced by Phospherescent.  It’s that fresh.  Groove on cosmic wanderer.
