Best New Indie – Youth Sector, Genuine Leather, Scasca, Curiositi

Youth Sector finds rare nostalgia on their anthemic new single Won’t Stop The Wheel.  They know what it is, it’s offered in their press release under similar artists.  The Talking Heads, Parquet Courts, Devo and Huey Lewis are all fair play for comparison.  We also hear some of the clever oft-kilter charm known to Cake.  This intriguing blend could please the mainstream and underground scenes equally.  One things for sure,  a jam this iconic will get the party started.

With dramatic swings Youth Sector keeps it epic.  The overall arrangement is impressive and shows an attention to care beyond its fun catchy nature.  Again and again this project blows us away.  Their catalog is growing ferociously.  Get on board before the ship fills up.  Youth Sector is going to the moon.

Genuine Leather presents an electro pop anthem with their infectious new single Even If I Could.  The vocal performance is full of conviction, belting convincingly buried beneath the musics electric pump.  Nostalgic synths stab a framework of the compositions melodic spectrum before spreading the harmonious width in the anthemic chorus section.  Deliciously stylistic with sonic illuminations to embellish the songs retro roots, Even If I Could connects with breakthroughs by Christine and the Queens and Francis and the Lights.

Genuine Leather adds an additional lofi tape deck influence for their own version of trademark nostalgia.  They’re connecting the dots between Tears for Fears and Tame Impala with an underground bedroom pop flair bred from their upbringing as a DAW hacker producer.  They pursued it full circle as students of jazz bass at a University.  It’s no wonder their catalog presents as eclectically intriguing and always on target, they know their shit and the influences are on point.

Scasca is intoxicating on their recent single Glue feat. Talipes Valgus.  An innovative tickling percussive tapping rapidly fires beneath a flowing atmospheric melody as the singers serene delivery floats above.  The arrangement immerses you with cinematic reverence and imaginative futuristic flair.  The vocal is as much an instrument as it is the signature lyrical focal point.  What swirls around it are the conjured memories from you unconscious dug up by the songs dreamlike aura.

The most experimental innovative version of projects like Radiohead and Bon Iver are fair reference points, as Glue sticks with you melodically where as so many experimental projects flow elusive.  If there is such an idea as a sure thing in the realm of future electronica this is it.

We lost ourselves in the dreamy vibe of Moon, the new single from Curiositi.  These Swedish indie pop gems have caught our attention with a string of hypnotic releases that present epic moods.  Their music is groovy melatonin, prompting you to sway while simultaneously losing yourself within its dreamy framework.

At the helm their singer works her melodic hush with strength and presence.  Stylistically it blends the aesthetics of Fleetwood Mac, Sharon Van Etten, and Beach House.  Like their name suggests, it’s an intriguing combination thats properly addictive.  We are fans.
