Women of Trip Hop ft ECHLO, Domi Contre

ECHLO is the echo and alias side project of Chloe Charles – the Award-winning critically acclaimed orchestral electro soul singer.  Her new single My Child is an intoxicating dreamy groove fest.  We hear evidence of 90s trip hop and first wave alternative R&B.  The artist has a smokey hush delivery, offered rich and to the front in the minimalist verses where she’s laid bare over the songs vintage beat. The ethereal production adds a metaphysical presence.  The sentiment honors the singers otherworldly vocal talents.  The affect is hypnotic, as you lose yourself within the smoky haze of her lush voice.

More than just an infectious vibe, My Child is a gorgeous tribute.  “It’s you who make it something, it’s you who give it meaning.”  The artist has a strong progressive belief system.  ECHLO is determined to push back against the expectations of an all-too-often inhumane society; with stories of her experimentation with polyamory, anti-establishment tales that some might consider conspiracy, the inability to commit to one love, and the belief that mental illness is a sane response to a sick society.

The hopeless romantic poetry of Lips Go Dry will enwrap you in its mischevious seduction.  The sultry urban delivery of singer Domi Contre is the ideal voice to reveal this tale of hesitation at the throes of desire.  “It’s only natural to feel that way, it’s practical for us, cause you and I are just a pair of Lips So Dry.”  The singer flips the switch on your preconceived formalities of lustful pursuit, as she embraces being the aggressor.  The music’s tempered playful house groove brings a lofi trip hop appeal, adding some cinematic contrast to the compositions lounge jazz roots.  In that way it recalls the works of Sade and Thievery Corporation with the teams own adapted urban feel.  That team being Domi Contre (vocals), Adam Hoos (production) and Adrianos Pandis (songwriting).

Lips So Dry is both seductive and exotic.  It’s also full of swagger and vintage nostalgia.  The narrative unfolds with cinematic flair, with a male accompanying vocal in the last movement to nail the classic feel.  Whether you’re looking to get in the mood or need a song to keep it, Lips Go Dry has you covered.
