Best New Indie – AKA Block, Something Moves, Slow Leaves, Glou-Glou

We lost ourselves to the hypnotic appeal of Siren Song, the new single from AKA Block and Bikoko.  The title suits the songs seductive affect, as the groove and melody pull you in with a sultry affect.  It’s an exotic chill pop vibe that bridges an influence of island music and alternative R&B.  The collective design, complete with a duet and illuminating backing vocals, adds to the songs rare aura.

Siren Song is intriguing and should attract both mainstream and underground music fans.  We think it will instantly grab fans of Neo-soul buzz artists like Chiild and Frank Ocean.

Something Moves creates something unique, dark, and beautiful on their new extensive release The Sadface Album.  A collectively intriguing work, their innovative aesthetic reflects iconic projects like Radiohead, Dirty Projectors, and Grizzly Bear.

From the chord voicings to their vocal phrasing to eclectic stylistic shifts, Something Moves shines as an art project beyond the confides of modern intentional catch and bate indie pop posers.  The extensive 12 song release flirts with inventive folk like the song Fool, frenetic energetic explosions like A Fraud, and odd time melodic entanglements like The Worst Part.  The creative flexes are truly expansive and worthy of a complete listen.  See for yourself, dig into the full length.

Slow Leaves – Jenny

Jenny, the new single from Slow Leaves, is a killer song in any light.  This classic Americana rock embraces the timeless aura of Tom Petty or Roy Orbison with some new indie sensibility.  It’s a surefire NPR hit.  The vocal performance is ripe with feel and candid emotion.

The companion music video (seen above) matches the songs charming vibe.  It’s equally candid within a concept that involves the artist pitching his interests in a classic style date finder video.  It’s goofy cheeky fun, but even this silly video can’t cloud the songs true nature.  Jenny is a catchy sad song that hurts so good.

Catch the drip from Drink Slowly, the new release from Glou-Glou.  A rare seductive vocal delivery offers musical intoxication, enamoring your with its classic soul sweetness.  Dripping elegantly over a lofi style beat with some groovy guitar to tie it together, Drink Slowly is minimalistic gold.

For comparison we hear some similarities to Rhye but with some more chill hop appeal.  It also connects with more mainstream breakthroughs by Sam Smith and Sade, or more classically, Marvin Gaye.

Glou-Glou belongs in that conversation while offering a flavor within that dialect that’s new and refreshing.  We find it delicious.
