Emerging Folk – Laura Lucas & Lawson Hull, Hazlett, Zach Madden, Adam Falkingham,

Laura Lucas and Lawson Hull team up for a gorgeous duet.  The new single I Imagine You Are Happy is a sentimental gem that could spur a romantic reunion.  The kind of song that ties itself to a memory. Everyone has a relationship to fit into this narrative.

It’s a soothing melodic composition with delicate production to illuminate the dreamy vibe.  The singers each with their own unique candid hush, like parallel musical ghosts.  The arrangement is clever, designed so that each singer can give the other space, much like the characters in the narrative itself.  The vibe bridges the auras of Gregory Alan Isakov and Phoebe Bridges elegantly.  We almost always love a proper duet. Lucas and Hall deliver.

Hazlett drops a beautiful indie folk hit with their new single Blame The Moon.  The stacked and carefully calculated falsetto of Blame The Moon may be the new indie folk standard, but Hazlett finds a way to breathe new life into the design.  Their writing is harmonious and effectively hypnotic.

The narrative is full of vulnerability and bears his feelings poetically.  It finds grace in its sad state.  That humility is charming. It’s a catchy song too, with a melody guaranteed to get under your skin.

A song that captures the essence of our existence.  Such is the case with Saturday Morning, the new single from Zach Madden.  It’s a routine familiar to most of us.  There’s something special about that mid weekend dawn and awakening to the one truly free moment of your week.

Madden captures that essence within an intriguing cinematic arrangement featuring dense modern orchestration akin to an indie pop Pet Sounds.  The conviction and emotion of his vocal performance adds to the appeal, conjuring memories of Art Garfunkel.  Sounds awesome? It is.

We lost ourselves int the musical oasis that is Mountains, the new single from Adam Falkingham.  This upbeat explorer anthem exemplifies the joy of the journey over the destination, and that cleanse associated with a proper trip.

Stylistically Falkinghman finds the middle road between Darlingside and Jose Gonzalez.  The composition is accessible within a dreamy indie folk design.  It’s the perfect companion to your next mountainside escape, or perhaps just a track to recall the serenity of being there when you’re stuck in your daily doldrums.  Close your eyes and fade away.

Mountains is featured on our Emerging Folk Playlist.
