We lost ourselves in the intoxicating flow of Backseat, the new single from tenants.  Flurries of imaginative poetry are offered with both hip hop flow and classic soul swagger.  A simple groove is bolstered by an impressive vocal performance.  Altogether it’s a gorgeous blend of indie pop and alt R&B.

The singer works his way around the melody with candid flavor, as if the ideas are presented as they come to him.  Collectively the vocal arrangement is full of variation and surprise, with lyrical gifts littered throughout.  Stylistically it’s a sure thing for fans of Frank Ocean or Childish Gambino.  Backseat has a seductive aura, one that should crossover into the broad indie pop space.

Oxygen Thief – Alex McArtor

Alex McArtor drew us in with the seductive siren aura of Oxygen Thief.  The exotic melodic instincts offer nice contrast to the music retro electro groove.  McArtor has an intoxicating second level to match her more sultry low end swagger.  It helps her embellish the songs developing narrative.

Alex McArtor is a star on the rise, already winning critical acclaim and enviable coverage from the likes of Billboard, Spin, and more.  She’s worth the hype.  For us she blends the auras of Lana Del Rey and more immersive dream pop acts like Beach House.  There’s a classic scope of influence that lends to dynamic arrangements full of melodic wonder and variation.  It’s all here.

A Band Called Ma caught our attention with their new single MOUNTAINTOP. Stylistically it bears a diverse scope of influence.  From dreamwave to shoegaze to classic rock, A Band Called Ma lets it all hang out with dramatic flair.

The songs moody ascension is epic and makes effective use of a rare Saxophone where so often a guitar or synth would be.  The affect recalls iconic arrangement by dare-we-say Pink Floyd, and the vibe delivers with its psychedelic mind altering dreaminess.  Big Thief meets Echo & the Bunnymen on this notable release.  MOUNTAINTOP is awesome.
