The hypnotic dream pop of moondaddy is cosmic melodic bliss. After a string of warm up singles the project arrives in full with the release of their new record Poet Lies. The lead single Hailey Moon lands heavy on our intergalactic dreamy hearts. It’s as if Enya and Beach House had a baby. It’s both cinematic and seductive, enwrapping you in its cinematic brilliance.
An epic vibe is amplified by the singers rare exotic delivery. Her smoky essence engulfs you with its elusive pain, a helpless hurt immune to your twin offerings of comfort and desire. She scans the songs melodic spectrum effectively, dropping into uncharted baritones before rising to a smooth alto range. In tribute to her design she matches the music’s gorgeous instincts.
An underground San Diego scene gem, multi-instrumentalist Cara Potiker is the notable driving force behind the project. We see real breakthrough potential in the realm of fellow Philadelphia upstarts Japanese Breakfast and Weyes Blood. Like them moondaddy shows on Poet Lies their ability to shape shift between energetic realms while stylistically staying on theme. We’re big time fans.

Kerri entranced us in the intoxicating vibe of their new single getting older. The vocal has a chill swagger rich demeanor. The affect is absolutely relaxing, like groovy melatonin for your worn down soul.
Rhythmically it’s sneaky groovy, adding a sultry flex in the vein of classic Prince. With an updated indie inspired sonic palette we hear evidence of underground gems like Joji to match its classic instincts. This is the kind of flow that can both get you to the dance floor and comfort you in a moment of routine escape. Much like getting older in real life, it’s kind of fun but also kind of sad. We find it delightful.

LB Beistad grabs our attention again with the release of her new single If I Was A Cowboy. The contrast of this catchy melancholy suits indie pops modern evolution. LB Beistad sneaks an influence of alt country into this dense indie inspired arrangement. A dose of atmosphere churns beneath the drums pounding resistance as LB Beistad herself croons patiently.
She convincingly blends the auras of Lana Del Rey, Mazzy Star, and Natalie Merchant. The vibe reflects her East Tennessee upbringing. An indie artist at heart, she can’t completely shake her Nashville instincts. The melancholy stems from memories of an isolated childhood, an affect that lands relatable within the collective reality of our new internet dystopia. The title of the song alone, paired with this vibe, inspires its own complicated interpretation.

The opening notes of Obscura might reference an RHCP radio hit but it’s just a tease in advance of a much more expansive art rich composition. Samuel Kinsella arranges an intricate brain teaser. The timing quips are illuminated by the tone design, as the guitars tickle with a stabbing percussive palmed brilliance.
The musicianship is top notch, as every note lands impeccably accurate like a perfect puzzle. The artist cites the expanded musical universe known to Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood as high inspiration. Like them every parrellel guitar part creates a savory musical dish, one where every ingredient shines both in its own essence and within the community of the design.
For us that feature also recalls the pioneer guitar works known to art punk pioneers Television. Obscura is the opening single that introduces an album by the same name. The expansive twelve song release features additional stand outs like Seethe and Fauna. Guitar enthusiasts will delight in its experimental surprise.
