Music Videos We Love – Phebe Starr, sugar sk*-*lls, Old Man Canyon, Sonny & The Sunsets

Recording artist Phebe Starr shows she’s got Hollywood ready skills in the performance for her new single One Step. Two Step.

The song itself is an infectious indie pop jam.  It’s got some retro flavor with a modern compositional sensibility.  We hear evidence of Sharon Van Etten with some of the classic vibes known to Kate Bush.  It’s the kind of smart pop we can’t get enough of and Phebe’s vocal performance is effectively true.

The video cleverly matches the songs classic feel, featuring period perfect details to cite it’s influence.  Let’s just say modern technology has come a long way.  A gorgeous production that honors today’s professional standard, it matches the musics vibrant modern presentation.  Flying way too far under the radar, Phebe Starr is a lurking super artist.  Say you knew her when.  Dig into the video here.

Witches, glitches, and synths.  Thats the pitch the drew us into the weird wonder that is Becomes Me, the new single from sugar sk*-*lls.  Melodically Becomes Me sparkles with an entrancing composition that’s entirely approachable.  There’s a nostalgic X-Files era cosmic synth sound to bring thematic mystery to the videos expansive Wiccan Narrative.

Like a lost excerpt from The Holy Mountain the video features clever stylistic adaptions and classic effects to tell this Witchcraft story.  It’s a little insane and fairly psychedelic but also incredibly fun.  From the costumery to the dramatic performances, it’s a triumph.  Check it out.

What’s Even Real Anymore.  The relationship of fantasy and reality within this new advanced age gets investigated in the new single from Old Man Canyon.  This chill psych pop vibe suits the videos metaverse narrative.  The song is a sure thing for fans of Washed Out and Crumb.  The video is equally entrancing.  It makes our new reality seem both serene and simple.

You can read into the thematic detail of the classic arcade claw.  It reflects our new joy aesthetic and how incredibly far we’ve come.  We’re not even 100 years removed from that first proper coin-op.  Now you can exist entirely in some alternative reality.  This can get deep real fast.  Talk amongst yourselves.  Peep the video here.

One of our favorite new discoveries,  Sonny & the Sunsets enhances our intrigue with the presentation of their new video for the single Shadows.  The song is featured on their new album Self Awareness Through Macrame, and it’s another vintage folk punk bop.

For us their vibe reflects a blend of The Velvet Underground, Violent Femmes, and Daniel Johnston.  It’s a reflection of their eccentric truth and art school flash.  The video honors the sentiment, featuring an array of drawings created by the songwriter himself, all with various cartoons and their respective shadows.  Simple and charming and all true to the unique touch of the artist himself.  Just like their music.  Check it out.
