Retro Pop Revival – MINDREADER, PAWWS, Feeding Tracy

MINDREADER moves in for The Kill.  The title of this new dark retro pop anthem delivers.  A glorious blend of post punk and synth pop, The Kill tags a range of classic 80s influence.  A seductive single on its own two legs, the companion music video adds to the appeal and trends iconic.

MINDREADER – THE KILL

The video for The Kill is gorgeously stylistic in honor of classic artists like Sioux and the Banshees.  The costumery, style, and fashion known to the originators is mostly lost on projects of today.  They aimed for futurism and an experimental aesthetic while we aim to reconnect within a corporate modern canon.  MINDREADER knows where they musically came from and it shows in every facet of their art.

Retro music fans will delight in Hear You Calling, the new single from PAWWS.  An instant dreamy synthwave classic, PAWWS gets under your skin.  The timeless synth production suits her dynamic vocal style.  It’s an effective blend of smooth and piercing.   She shines within the blend of the music, navigating the composition like its proper central detail while synths swirl around her magnetic voice.

The music honors her emotional sparkle, as her vocal performance rings with conviction and care.  It’s real passion that makes PAWWS flash, both for the emotional complexities of the lyrics and for this era in pop.  PAWWS has written hits for breakthrough pop artist like Dua Lipa and Ellie Goulding.  Like them she bears an appreciation for the 80s and finds new ways to push that era forward. As a solo artist she’s flying too far under the radar.  PAWWS writes hits.

Feeding Tracy – Dance-1

Feeding Tracy caught our attention with their new single dance-1.  We were drawn to the collective sonic choices.  From the array of stacked synths to the stylistic electric drums, the arrangement is notably effective.  They make proper use of a churning saw synth sound for a brooding underlayer.  The contrast of the sparkling lead offers melodic brilliance, while an array of exciting loops give the rhythm design a dynamic presence.

The vocal honors post punks eccentric legacy, sounding tortured and innately a pitch liability while instinctually understanding where the best melodic options reside.  It’s a testament to its candid intention and lack of professional concern.  It’s meant for a subset of fans and it’s that intrigue that brought the mainstream to its altar.  The general public wants a connection to the underground, and within an array of major label niche hungry intrusions Feeding Tracy help keep these vibes true to its founders.  In that way its connects with the classic works of Joy Division or modern innovators LCD Soundsystem.
