Pastel Blank is refreshingly infectious on their new single Dopamine. An array of influences inspired this design. From funk to world music to first wave punk, this blend first found mainstream success in the works of The Talking Heads.
Pastel Blank captures that aura and adds their own musical flash. It’s heard in the unassuming guitar solo, a facet that could branch their success into the realms of the jam band festival scene. Thats not a bad place to be for this funky fresh punky update. It reflects how that scene has embraced similar bands like LCD Soundsystem or dare we say Parquet Courts. We hear a little of both in Dopamine, and thats a great thing. Like them Pastel Blank has the ability to be adored by a wide scope of fans.

Diana gets a haunting tribute from Perth indie crooners Curley. A gorgeous arrangement featuring shimmering chorus drenched guitars and nostalgic washes of atmosphere gets a boost from a convincing vocal performance. The singers sentimental emotional quiver lands iconic. If you’re going to inject a name into your lyrical framework it needs to be sung with such passion and conviction as this.
Stylistically we hear a blend of The Smiths with the modern compositional appeal of Father John Misty. Diana is one part of a new album due out later this year from the Australian export. Dig in!

Curiositi wear their influences on their sleeves with their new single Miserable. The Fleetwood Mac inspiration sparkles making them a suitable real world substitute for Daisy Jones and The Six fandemonium.
While the stylistic reference is remarkable it doesn’t take away from the quality and value of their work. Miserable is anything but. It’s both dreamy and groovy, luring you to sway within its hypnotic essence. It’s gorgeous nostalgia, reimagined with an attention that could threaten the rise of classic tribute bands. We would prefer it.

An artist who claims to be 11 years old and makes interesting dynamic compositions that bear a heavy influence to underground indie pop. Known simply as Maria Rabbit, very little is offered about them.
The new single I Want You By Me comes with the following description. ““this song was recorded in a sunroom in a suburb of boston. the percussion was recorded in a church. the singer is my cousin and she’s 11 years old. we had fun making this. thanks for listening. “ Clairo and Plums are cited as influences and for us Maria Rabbit’s voice is dream pop gold.
The production and arrangement are fun too. Maria Rabbit as far as we can find has one monthly spotify listener and 3 soundcloud followers. Perhaps an unfamiliar audience is skeptical based on her age. We hope Maria Rabbit can offer more to help her seem legit, until then we can respect the song’s George Harrison meets Beach House vibe.
