Lawson Hull pens a coming to age classic with his recent Strange. This oft-country indie folk castaway vibe suits the songs defeated essence. The vibe resonates with our shared isolated peril, reminding us that loneliness persists beyond the pandemic and for some of us the snap back isn’t so automatic.
“Come pick me up, the wheels are off again.” The drama builds as Strange evolves with cinematic brilliance. There’s a glimmer of hope to this sadness, a testament to its scope of self understanding. To know you’re not right on the inside is often the first step towards healing. The video is a vibe too (see above).

Bethany Gray entranced us with her recent single high note. This intoxicating vibe is like dreamy musical melatonin. You’re absorbed into the lullaby essence of her smooth delivery, appropriately illuminated in the stacked chorus section. Two Gray’s are better than one to accent these poetic visions and the surprise this experience represents.
In that way Bethany encapsulates that trait of youthful wonder through song. Stylistically she finds some new compositional realms within that breakthrough dreamy indie folk vibe known to Clairo or Phoebe Bridgers. We can dig it.

The woes of Dutch Elm Disease get a metaphorical tribute on the new single from Fellow Hollow. This progressive experimental acoustic first vibe recalls new classic Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear. It’s a comparison we make triumphantly, as we can only hope to receive more releases in this style.
Fellow Hollow adds their own compositional flare and diverse scope of influence. Dutch Elm Disease as a narrative feels appropriate complicated and lyrically abstract. It’s an immersive musical experience, moving and gloriously cinematic.

The eclectic Brooklyn based recording artist Jack Sloan evolves into the world of folk with his sentimental single I-40. The theme reimagines how Paul Simon might sound if he wrote an album influenced by Springsteen’s Nebraska. Cleverly produced, it’s the lyrics and narrative that really make I-40 stand out.
Like a modern pocket novel it tells this tragic tale elegantly. We also hear an influence of Jeff Buckley in some of Sloan’s melodic inclinations. Altogether I-40 reigns as an unforgettable experience, one this stories protagonist knows not to dare replicate.
