Best New Indie – Sleepy Pearls, About You, Dizzy Dreamer, a New Sled Space

We lost ourselves in the hypnotic feel of The Water Song, the new single from Sleepy Pearls.  A thoughtful introductory guitar part brings academic intrigue into a dreamy pop design.

The singers intoxicating delivery wades into the arrangement bringing a wash of soothing atmosphere with every entry.  The affect suits the arrangements conceptual flavor, wading like waves on beach.

The groovy shuffling beat adds an exotic jive, one that suits the projects sultry nature.  It’s a testament to the guitarists bluesy essence and the singers seductive delivery.

The music video drops later this month and we can’t wait to see it. Get a taste now, hear The Water Song now on our Best New Indie Playlist.

A song that represents the authors serenity prayer through mental health issues, About You drops an anthem in God Don’t Let Me Lose My Mind.  Every big drum drop signifies the brevity of this moment.  The song is appropriately epic.  It’s dressed with cinematic musical imagery in the form of dramatic strings that pull at your emotional heartstrings.  The artist gracefully digs from his emotional well to pull out a convincing performance, one that adapts into the sonic fury of the songs closing guitar solo.

Meaningful substance collides into a thoughtful arrangement in this complete package.  You can’t deny the industry level scope of attention. For us it finds the middle ground between Hozier and The War On Drugs.  Like both of them About You presents a great song matched by its production quality.  Turn it up, this is sonic gold.

Dizzy Dreamer puts a fresh spin on Navy Blue, a song originally written by the band The Story So Far. Dizzy Dreamer reimagines the acoustic emo anthem with dream pop appeal.  It still retains an essence of emo influence.  It brings nice contrast against the atmospheric design, adapting with some of the post punk reverence known to The XX or Joji.

Dressed in this manner the song just hits different.  It’s immersive, drowning you in washes of echo as the voice breaks through from some other dimension.  The affect is inspiring and in some circumstances likely emotionally altering.  “I hope it makes you sad.”  If only you could let the haters sit down long enough to hear it, just so you can see their response to knowing how much you think they suck.  Until them you can imagine that moment while basked in the glow of this song.

a New Sled Space makes vibrant emo inspired bedroom pop.  There’s a warmth to their sound, a lingering comfort that permeates this musical refuge.  It’s that same affect that makes emo folk offshoots so relatable.  They update that aura known to Alex G with Cobain-esque appeal on the delightful single Westless.  It’s just one of the tracks that pulled us into their sound.

They adapt into a more dooming experimental sad state on Memorandum XIV.  Embracing a more genuine lofi aesthetic, it retains the charm of a bootleg demo, feeling in the moment.  Melodically we hear an influence of Elliot Smith.  For us, it’s a glorious segway out of Westless, the kind of song that could ink an already curious fan.

A deeper dig brought us to the revelatory song The Drawing Road.  The narrative unfolds like a poetic diary entry.  It offers a catchier version of this project.  The drum version is rhythmically smart and absolutely energizing.  Altogether it’s a beautiful project, one that emo rock and 90s grunge fans can equally adore.
