Best New Indie – MITYA, Individual Time Travel, Lewis McLaughlin, Burnout Brigade

MITYA caught our attention with their new single Cumpulele Rasita feat. Toussa & Fidêl.  The expansive production and intriguing arrangement immediately grab you with melodic surprise and orchestral beauty.  MITYA enlists a real orchestra to illuminate this work.  They also inject an unexpected mid song rap section before evolving into psych soul brilliance.  Stylistically they bridge the gap between Gorillaz, Tame Impala, and Khruangbhin.

Mitya just released his debut album “TUU” and a musical series called “Altaidelica”, where he travels to Altai mountains to record music with real shamans and babushkas.  Be a part of something truly special.  You’re still early!

Individual Time Travel – They Killed You

We lost ourselves in the ethereal essence of They Killed You, the new live performance video from Individual Time Travel.  Just his guitar and voice and heavy doses of stylized reverb and guitar chorus are all that’s needed to illuminate his vibe.  The atmospheric echo feels massive and adds to the Cathedral style reverence.

The video is just for context, offering evidence to mark this truth.  It’s effective at amplifying his talent as a singer and writer, and the song itself features harmonious depth within a simple construct.  The reverb helps to resonate those voicings, a blend that we find intoxicating.  We can hear similarities to Hozier with some added shoegaze influence.  They Killed You is ironically gorgeous.

Lewis McLaughlin – Getting Better

We dig the slow burn heard on Getting Better, the new single from Lewis McLaughlin.  The intro erupts on cue and the payoff delivers.  The singers rich accent adds to the genuine nature and urban swagger.  His vocal is fairly candid, and it’s that authenticity that really drew us in.

McLaughlin is magnetic and Getting Better offers him a proper anthem to stand on.  We could hear comparisons to Sam Fender with some of the abstract appeal known to Villagers.  Hear for yourself.

Burnout Brigade – Machine Dreams

Burnout Brigade embraces the madness on their new single Machine Dreams.  The singers disconnected angst feels appropriately burdened, a suffering that serves this performance well.  The narrative honors his complex emotional construct with an intriguing composition full of timely melodic shifts to lift the dramatic changes.

There’s some nostalgic flair to his performance that recalls Bono and Billy Corgan, while the indie influence breaks through in the composition. We hear influential evidence of The National, Arcade Fire, and Future Islands.  We find it collectively delightful.
