A breakbeat groove caught our attention at the onset of Say My Name, the new infectious jam from eclectic indie artist Rolla.  A classic soul inspired rap type tirade evolves into a catchy singing section before revolving into new modes within the rap canon.  Say My Name is a stylistic showcase offering all the various magnetic personalities in one rapid package.

For context checkout artists like Fricky or first wave Gorillaz.  Rolla blends genres instinctually, bearing diverse influences that might range from Silk Sonic to Steve Lacy and more classically through the realms of Motown into the now.  We can dig it.

your friend juniper isn’t afraid to admit that So Cliché is a love song for people allergic to love.  That sentiment is amplified in the narratives first revelatory moments, ringing with desperation as our anti hero stands helpless.  She clearly doesn’t know how to carry herself within the throes of infatuation.  It’s a toxic love; less about the object of affection and more about the idea of it.  In that way it reflects societal pressures bred into our young people from birth.  When your innately defunct of romantic ability the struggles are painfully dooming.

your friend juniper presents this story eloquently and with a convincing tremble ripe with authenticity.  Stylistically she channels the indie pop swagger of Faye Webster with some of the eccentric pomp akin to her self prescribed influence Regina Spektor. Hear for yourself.

LA RIVER CROSSING – BIG STRONG MAN

We found ourselves entangled in the groovy appeal of Big Strong Man, the new single from LA River Crossing.  Initially pulling you in with a magnetic beat and the singers chill cool affect, the bands twists the vibe with captivating progressive surprise.  It’s a clever variation you can trace back to the compositional quips known to the Beatles.

They update that influence with an indie sensibility that equally blends an influence of Wilco, The Shins, and Elliot Smith.  Altogether it’s great writing honored by a beautiful arrangement.  Hang on for the effective violin solo.  Big Strong Man truly soars.
