Undiscovered Gems – Amy Jay, Emily Brooks, Eden Rain, Joe Andrews

Amy Jay caught our attention with the revelatory truth heard on Joke.  This coming of age classic illuminates the dramatic shift from youth to adulthood.  Amy Jay presents details known to her daily routine as if they’re limiting her progress despite their lack of provoctivity.  Whereas reading books was once a cherished admired trait now it presents like an intruder to new forms of monetary succession.

Work the gig economy, drive for a share company, delivery groceries, do whatever it takes til you get that first milli.  It’s that new sick mantra at the essence of our updated dystopian emptiness.  That feeling that we’re not doing enough.  It is one big joke?  We think so.  Jay offers the sentiment with magnetic melodic brilliance, pulling your towards her altar with every chorus lift.  An anthem for the disheartened.  Joke fits in well with the very in-the-moment current indie vibes known to Boy Genius, Clairo, and Girlhouse.

Emily Brooks – State Of Mind

Emily Brooks drops an instant classic with her new single State of Mind.  The songs trademark chorus has iconic soundtrack potential.  It’s extremely cinematic, an attribute of its familiar nostalgic nature.  Yet this catchy hook is all her own and she’s got the star presence to send this melodic treasure to the stratosphere.

The video (watch above) amplifies her star appeal and holds you to the songs last breath.  We hear evidence of Wolf Alice or even A Perfect Circle with some added mainstream pop brilliance.  It’s rock music with radio pop potential.  Hear and see for yourself.

Eden Rain enwrapped us in the catchy pumping jive of her new single pet names.  She blesses the infectious progression with her hypnotic vocal prowess, carefully picking notes from the highest branches of her intoxicating range then sliding smoothly back into her lower register.  The narrative is clever and relatable, adapting the song like a cherished token within your imaginative headspace.

It’s a feel good jam boosted by the contrast of its melancholy melodic essence.  In that way it recalls recent indie pop breakthroughs like Wallice and Clairo.

Joe Andrews knows he’s a Candidate for Cool.  The subject of his new single, Andrews pens a candid gem.  He eloquently combs through happenstance with introspective vigor.  Its a quiet condemnation, one reserved for the exhale heard on this effective tribute.  The clever lyrical quips recall the genius rhetoric known to Parquet Courts and LCD Soundsystem, but delivered with the working class appeal of Sam Fender.

Andrews offers his own classic alt rock alteration with subtle Gaslight Anthem era indie punk influence. The lyrics are a treasure trove of substance with topics ranging from craft beer to social buzz hot takes. It’s insanely entertaining and guaranteed to lead to visions of colleagues in the social wild.
