Emerging Folk – Boundary Run, Luke Beling, Savion, Melanie Pierce

“Give me that medicine that I need.”  It’s the trademark moment that warps you into an imaginative dream state when listening to the new single from Boundary Run.  Bearing a fair influence of Bon Iver in a way that honors their work but finds fresh footing within that vibe, Medicine reflects how we might have preferred the icon evolve out of their self titled breakout.

Boundary Run is appropriately soulful with elite falsetto prowess and a proficient electrified producers touch.  It all serves to illuminate their innately delectable melodic instincts.

Luke Beling channels the aura of Dylan on his new single Pearl in the Tide.  The stylistic reference suits the songs honorable narrative, as Beling addresses issues of wealth disparity in societies. Beling himself reflects folks farm town Americana roots, leaning into his twang and gritty nature in contempts of mainstreams vibrato filled flash.

The core foundation of guitar and harmonica get some indie folk inspired support from swirls of atmosphere and orchestrated beauty.  It brings this style into the new sonic age with careful reverence as to not dismantle its authenticity, but to instead play to our ears newly trained immersive tendencies.

Savion drops a cinematic gem with their recent single Broken Into.  The classic production cites Spaghetti Westerns with nostalgic reverence, channeling an elusive realm within 60s folk pop.  The composition bears an influence of folk standards to honor its classic instincts.

Savion adds an epic narrative to support the musics haunting nature.  It amplifies the vibes authentic aura, with the lead singer shining as the lost romantic within this Tolstoy tale.  With an indie sonic sensibility Savion bridges the auras of Lana Del Rey and First Aid Kit.  Broken Into is dreamy intoxicating retro Gold.  Close your eyes and scale the high seas towards a New World.

Melanie Pierce caught our attention with her new single Stir Crazy.  The band sets a groovy foundation bolstered by the use of delay on both the guitars and the bass.  In that way it reminds us of some of the chiller works known to Incubus, a comparison we don’t get to make often.

Pierce equally honors the legacy of Brandon Boyd with some updated indie pop appeal.  She leans into the attitude and angst of the moment as this gaslighting narrative unfolds from her bitter tongue.

With over 10 years experience in the performance circuit Pierce is ready for a breakout and Stir Crazy adds to a growing catalog looking to push her over the edge.  Only her 3rd single, it’s likely to become a moody stalwart highlight of her live show.  Overhead lights low, sparkles in the foreground, Stir Crazy is a vibe.  It’s the kind of slow churn that pulls you into the moment with groovy appeal.
