Best New Indie – Will Wells, Sarah Klang, Paolo Ruiu, Das Body

In our search for epic hooks we found a champion in TEETH, the new single from Will Wells.  A proper introductory build sets up the raptureous payoff that permeates from the chorus section.  As a singer it offers him the chance to rush into his infectious second level.  The emotion adds to the epic feel, with modern sonic attention to the mix bringing impactful punch to the moment.

It quite literally slaps you in the face in a manner so heavy you reason why the song’s not arranged to over indulge it.  Stylistically we think its connects with emo influenced progressive indie rockers like Car Seat Headrest and The Districts.

If you’re wondering about the international indie musical heroes who still fly under the radar in the states, look no further than Sarah Klang.  We wonder how it’s even possible possible, with Sarah having achieved several critically acclaimed hits, Grammy level nominations, and coverage from stalwarts like Rolling Stone.

Klang’s worthy of the accolades too.  Her rich and golden pristine vocal talents could make any song sparkle, but her writings more than a formality.  Intriguing compositions like her recent Sunny Philadelphia show an appreciation for melodic surprise and an introspective pen.  She’s been channeling her new primary role as Mother into timeless hits like Worst Mom and Mercedes.  We think your ears will find her talent undeniable, but her storytelling adds an additional spark that makes these songs truly meaningful.

If you’re on the hunt for catchy lofi underground heroes you can’t do much better than Paolo Ruiu.  His new single Wait Below is the most recent in a lineage of stylistic hits that display his penchant for intoxicating melodies within an immersive sonic design.  A great writer in any format, Ruiu prefers to dress his work with nostalgic cassette style sheen.  He brings some added tonal attention to the design in a manner that helps these jams flow within the canon of modern indie releases.

Sheogaze and lofi dream pop both have some stake to this design.  For us it connects with early releases from The War On Drugs and Kurt Vile, before they pulled away the sheen and joined the polished mainstream machine.
