Women Of Trip Hop – Mayuko, Annabella Paige, Jane Bonis, GOLT

We were drawn into the interpretive musical dance initiated by White Heat, the new single from Germany trio Mayuko.  The inventive rhythmic design brings elegant surprise.  Gloriously produced, the narrative emulates a panic attack, with the jagged design emulating your bodies chemical disarray.  Almost everything’s a drum within this tickling design, with the melodic elements sharing in the percussive construct. Slow synths attempt to glue the melodic atmosphere, acting as the harmonious balance hoping to reel in the chaotic production.

The expressive vocal performance honors the intention, whiplashing from alternating percussive fits to melodic swoons.  Stylistically Mayuko bridge the experimental orchestrated appeal of Bjork with some of the candid theatrical vitality known to Fiona Apple.  Try to keep up.

Annabella Paige embraces a blissful vibe on her passionate new single This I Miss.  A careful piano caresses the melodic atmosphere as a motivational groove hopes to inspire slow and close swaying.

Paige offers a sensual detail, bypassing Trip Hops dark legacy for a more inviting enlightened discovery.  Citing an added influence of R&B and Soul, the production reigns cinematic with some classic nostalgic flair known to pop orchestras from legacy studios.  It bridges the auras between Sade and Thievery Corporation.  We find it delightful.

Jane Bonis – The Day I Die

A brooding creepy atmosphere germinates in the opening moments of The Day I Die, the new single from Jane Bonis.  It suits the season and adds an immediate cinematic reverence amplified by the short skit heard in the beats opening moments.

“What’s your name” the classic detective style voice asks.

Jane.”

The vocal performance that follows adds to the chic exotic essence.  Her voice, rich with depth and maturated sex appeal.  Dark with femme fatale contempt, she resents her inability to dispel your desire.  She finds serenity in her ability to lure you with devilish intention.  The Day I Day is a sure thing for trip hop fans, connecting with a vibe known to Hope Sandoval and Blue Foundation.

GOLT – CROW

GOLT honors the legacy of the Crow on their haunting tribute.  Cinematic progressive swings add to the conceptual journey.  Like a story in song the narrative adapts with an intriguing twist.  Crow transverses two realms. The one embracing a realm of innovate trip hop inspired chill pop, while the other fully embracing the cinematic concept, erupting with quick theatrical flash before relenting back to its brooding roots.

Stylistically it’s an immersive blend with elements that bear an influence of Radiohead, Portishead, and St Vincent.  Like them Crow is inventive without losing its approachability.
