Best New Indie – Bathe Alone, brother bird, Jak Lizard, King Borneo

Bathe Alone continue to stretch their stylistic reach with their new single Archive 81.  Immersive psych dream pop suits their innovative arrangements and composition flash.  The singer embraces her voices lush affect in this suggestive vibe.  It adds to the songs intoxicating nature, while the band accentuates the drama with effective drops and an inspired performance.

The guitars and synths inject emotion into their parts, adding to the emotional urgency and unrequited sexual energy.  We find it exciting.  Stylistically we hear elements of Beach House, Tame Impala, and Lo Moon.

brother bird – something better

We dig the clever catchy appeal of something better, the new single from brother bird.  The artist eloquently marries a recent indie influence with some classic aughts flavor.  For us it blends the indie pop of Clairo with classic indie rock known to cult heroes Delta Spirit.  The vibe adapts anthemic in the passionate chorus lift.  It’s a proper payoff guaranteed to bring a concert audience to its feet.

The charm is on full display in the effective companion video (see above), with various convincing screen tests showcasing the artist true star potential.  Her ability to stay candid under the microscope offers helps illuminate her aura.  Soon everyone will know brother bird.

We were popping and locking to the infectious jive of Messy, the new single from Jak Lizard.  The snappy beat suits his melodic percussive pump.  Like Chance The Rapper and Outkast, Jak Lizard adapts an influence of hip hop into the realm indie pop.

R&B and Soul share in the stylistic blend, with clues ascending from the influence of Motown heard in the time piece piano.  Lizard honors the vibe with some cheeky lyrical flash, keeping it quirky and fun while barely avoiding the Lil Dicky cheese.  Not that we mind.  Messy is fresh.  Dig in.

King Borneo – People Eyewear

Bob Dylans influence finds fresh footing on the catchy new jam People Eyewear, from Swedish crooner King Borneo.  The King adds some Murloc style psych infused sonic reverence to the classic folk pop style composition.  Borneo embraces Dylan’s classic twang with timely group vocals recalling the Byrds own treasured stylistic adaptions.

The teaser video (see above) only adds to the curious comparison, channelling his mannerisms with an added sleek biker twist.  It’s only slightly weird, but mostly approachable with some added star presence to add to his enigma.
