Best New Indie – Marcane, Soft Loft, Club 8, Up&Out

Just when we thought that the influential well from turn of the century commercial rock was dead here comes Marcane and their new single Blurring.  To be clear, we think it’s a freaking smash.  We hear elements more relative to Linkin Park and NIN.  It’s a refreshing blend when compared to the typical inspirational scope of todays indie rock.

Though the melody bares that influence, Marcane takes it further with an imaginative electro arrangement.  Altogether it’s a combination of moody, dark, and innovative.  The emotional vocal delivery adds to the authenticity.

Soft Loft – Happy New Year

Soft Loft drops their most infectious jam yet.  Happy New Year is immediately addictive.  Anchored by an insatiable groove, the new single immediately gets into your headspace.  It’s the perfect framework for their lead singer to employ her rare quivering vibrato.  Her trademark vocal delivery lands exotic.  It reflects their Swiss roots exquisitely, while offering a new breakthrough within this vibe.

We think Soft Loft is a sure thing for fans of Big Thief and Men I Trust.  Their dynamic songwriting offers them major attention, as fresh fans will delight in an illustrious back catalog.  You’re still early, Soft Loft has been on our radar but they still fly beneath the surface.  Say you heard them first.

Club 8 – Sunny

A post punk influence finds its lofi indie pop sparkle on Sunny, the new single from Club 8.  As if Dehd and Magnetic Fields had a baby, Sunny is seeped in contrast.  It feels good within a classic punk ethos, not unlike 80s alternatives true influential foundings.

Sunny feels like when punk kids find their tribe and start having fun.  Club 8 shine like first love, trailing off from their scene to go make merry and take some time away from fighting the man.  The duet and stylistic mix amplifies the cinematic presence, implanting a scene in your headspace that full of expressive imagery.  It’s that effective. This is great art.

Up&Out LIVE

Up&Out caught our attention with their new single Less.  Stylistically it’s a clever eclectic blend, with elements of 80s alternative and contemporary Jazz to match its indie instincts.  They add an intriguing narrative ripe with frustration and reflecting current cultural conundrums.  It’s a song that speaks to its generation as much as it is a rare chance to groove excitingly.

Stylistically we hear a mix of The Smiths, an indie sensibility of Ra Ra Riot, and the contemporary touch of Lake Street Dive.  If that sounds like a tasty stylistic soup then you should dig in.   We think it’s delicious.
