Hip Hop Discovery – KJ(!), Ol’ Burger Beats, John Brown, Haji Outlaw

KJ (!) found us popping and locking to the funky jive of his new single The Bar.  A percussive cadence accentuates the songs effective jive, as his lyrical fury bobs and weaves with rapid precision in a way that cites the alternative more critically respectable legacy of Eminem (as in his songs that aren’t cheesy). The beat is more Mac Miller with some of the added catchy flash known to Outkast.  It’s a killer jam no matter how you spell it.  The Bar straight rips.

Enter the abstract lofi bliss of Running, the new single from Ol’ Burger Beats feat Pink Siifu.  The vibe reigns supreme on this stylistic release.  Elements of gritty gutter soul infiltrate where convention threatens to break through.  In that same manner a candid verse erupts before retreating back to the shadows that bred it.  The project connects with the expanded works of Fly Anakin and YUNGMORPHEUS.  Tune in a zone out, Running is a vibe.

John Brown blends the worlds of synth pop and indie rap on his infectious new single Ain’t Going Back.  Mainstream and the underground converge convincingly in the same way it lifts artists like Outkast and Lil Yachty.  An anthem for a new generation committed to the age of acceleration.  “We an’t going back to the way it was.”  Facts.

Haji Outlaw – Sunday by Blu

We dig the nostalgic reverence of Sunday by Blu, the new single from Haji Outlaw.  Both a comedian and MC, the artist has contributions to notable programs like the Eric Andre show.  His work delivers too.  Sunday Blu has traces of Wu Tang mixed with trip hop flavor in the vein of DJ Shadow or Wax Tailor.  The groove embraces that jazz lounge lofi swagger.  Only available on Soundcloud its likely an off the record burst of lyrical inspiration.  We enjoy it regardless.  Check it out above.
