Hip Hop Discovery – iies, Jamaal Matters, Manny Grey, Nick Marks x Doron Lev

Rock, fusion, and abstract hip hop all have a stake in the stylistic brilliance of Wings, the new single from iies.  Their aesthetic amplifies the electic nature of all involved, arguably a more accurate blend of where popular music was expected to ascend.  In no way would you ever mistake this for Rap Rock, but at times the MC channels Zach De La Rocha before alternating with Wu Tang style affect.  The second you think the rap took over a late song jam erupts.  We’d pay to see this in concert.  Wings straight up slays.  Dig in.

Jamaal Matters – Take yo Chain (feat Tap)

Jamaal Matters claims his truth with his new single Take yo Chain (feat. Tap).  From the struggle to the celebration Matters scans his history elegantly.  Within the video his truth shines bright.  This an’t all talk, but reality in a way that’s admirable.  Duel meaningful narratives show both rappers in an honest light, and the video pays respect to the community that lets them flex.  Stylistically the group connects with the works of RJ Payne, Kooley High, and Action Bronson.  Raleigh Represent.

Manny Grey – OK

A rapid fire breakbeat sample draws you in at the opening moments of OK the new single from Manny Grey.  It collides into a boom bap swing as the vocals reign stylistic.  The abstract metaphorical suits both the lyrical attention and the songs captivating video.  Music and madness unite as flashes of modern dance and interpretative movement.  OK is as much about an energy as it is an aura.  See for yourself.

Oh snap you thought we were all boom bap and aggressive punch.  Damn straight we dig the chill nature of Back To Life.  The new single from Nick Marks and Doron Lev is straight infectious.  Their percussive flow bobs and weaves so fluid you might mistake it for another instrument in the design.  From the alliterations to the crisp constenents and rhymes they employ to accent their inflections, Back To Life gonna make you feel fresh.  A sure thing for fans of Tribe and J Dilla.
