If you haven’t heard, we’re based around Philly. On a breezy day we might take a short drive up the interstate to the coastal hipster bliss of Asbury Park. The shore town is known for its iconic connection to Bruce Springsteen, perhaps you’ve heard of his breakthrough record Greetings from Asbury Park. Nearly 50 years removed from the national spotlight, the area has enjoyed an indie rock revival that includes breakthrough artist Fletcher. The scene there and in the surrounding area is thriving, with several on the cusp indie buzz acts including buzz worthy Sonic Blume.
Fans of The Districts, Soccer Mommy, and Modest Mouse are guaranteed to connect with Sonic Blume and their blend of punk and turn of the century indie rock. In the new video for Rocky & I you can tour nearby shore town LBI in all of its offseason glory. The single is a highlight off their 2023 album All Your Favorite Songs. The buzz is legit.

No Curse caught our attention with the release of their new single Paths. A lofi buried aesthetic can’t blur their undeniably catchy melodic instincts. In that way they mirror first wave icons Joy Division, whose influence still dominates post punk today.
Paths embraces their sonic aura with the added precision that modern tech offers, as well as the added melodic candy known to the evolution of that group that became New Order. We find Paths purely delightful.

We lost ourselves in the anthemic vibe of Tears, the new single from Talking to Shadows. There’s something immaculate about a soaring vocal within this alt rock framework. The band embraces an influence of shoegaze bands like Nothing.
We also hear a semblance of early Band of Horses or My Morning Jacket. It’s an iconic sound we can’t get enough of when done right, and Talking to Shadows bring it proper. Catching them gigging around their native Baltimore in advance of a likely national shoegaze breakout.

We were drawn to the melodic brilliance of You Are The Wind, the new single from Irish Basement. The groups embraces a post punk melodic ethos while finding some buried treasure within this vibe.
It’s a testament to the songs convincing hook, a surefire statement that ties itself to a moment. In that way it reminds us of The Cure and the significance their addictive lyrics had on their work. Irish Basement honors that legacies emotional complexion with a dramatic outburst in the songs convincing closing moments. We can dig it.

Dreamy shoegaze rockers SWiiMS have their own trademark blend within the extended shoegaze canon. It’s heard throughout their catalog and honored on their new single Given To Me. The trio delivers live too, with singer Mai Diaz Langou standing out as a new guitar hero within this genre.
Given To Me has some nice progressive swing and an explosive nature that could launch in concert. We’re big fans of SWiiMS and we think they’re a sure thing for fans of Alvvays and Slowdive as well as more dream pop projects like Beach House.
