It was his prolific effort that lead Spencer Draegerto branch out from his band The Midnight Hollow and to start the side solo project DRÄGER. His new single Brooklyn BB is a homage to his NYC foundings, as the LA transplant likely reminisces confusingly of a brilliant young career and several notable accomplishments.
Or perhaps, like most of us, it’s just a desired rekindling of some classic romantic tension, one tethered to a place like how pasta tastes better in Italy. Blessed with a vintage croon and some added nostalgic presence, Brooklyn BB bridges the realms electro post punk and Pete Yorn or Interpol convincingly. We simply adore it. Usually it’s the the grimy appregiating synth bass or the sparkling synth, but there’s another detail that amplifies the nostalgic aura of Histoire Bleue, the new single from La Nuit Americaine. It’s the charming native French, with its exotic inflection and romantic reverence.
French has an exotic affect that draws you into an imaginative dream state. Sang with a soft serene delivery, the aura breaks language barriers. Its a vibe that connects itself to some trademark memory in the spirit of classic wave, much like how we were drawn to those first brilliant hits from College and Chromatics.
