Undiscovered Gems – SNACKTIME, maxime, juno roome, Fairhazel

Real recognizes real.  Sure, it’s a buzz sentiment worn down by privileged kids looking to shake their entitled legacies, but there’s some truth to the statement.  Tri state collective SNACKTIME embraced the community beyond the commodity at a time when it was most needed, throwing street concerts when the venues were shut down earlier this decade.  Their authenticity and community spirit has propelled them from local darlings to national sensation.  It’s that desire to feel something real and authentic that drives audiences to them, and then of course it’s the energetic live show that keeps them coming back.

More than just the hype, SNACKTIME writes bangers.  Their new single THE HIGH LIFE has an indie soul essence in the vein of Leon Bridges and Gary Clark Jr.  That dynamic detail should lift SNACKTIME out of the realm of novelty.  Don’t skip on SNACKTIME, we’re already hungry for more.

We were drawn to the vibrant sound design of come undone, the new single from maxime.  Full of depth and texture and arranged with dramatic progressive swings, come undone is anthemic musical theater.  The composition sways between the realms of the underground with some mainstream sensibility mostly in that this vibe is undeniable and fun.  Not like bubblegum fun, more like let’s break into a house and throw a party fun.  There’s a reckless youthfulness to this vibe in the spirit of Teezo Touchdown or Paris Texas.

This is just one part of a new 12 song album the life and death of a dog.  An eclectic indie breakthrough, the artist displays a variety of infectious layers from his diverse creative palette.  Highlights include the groovy contrast of big, if true.  On this track the artist blends the indie rap appeal of Still Woozy with a vocal that bears an influence of psych pop.  Overall it’s a killer release with a fresh feel.  Get fresh.

We dig the contrast heard on quite like you do, the new release from juno roome.  Initially the vocal creeps under your skin, scaling the melancholy musical mirage that churns beneath, before evolving hypnotically in the soothing chorus section.  That contrast adds an enticing cinematic affect full of personality and substance.

The protagonist shines within the construct of unrequited obsession, and the temptation of their siren song feels devilishly effective.  Some like it dark, juno roome gives you both.  A dream pop love song for the goth crowd.  Of course we love it.

Fairhazel – Weary Eyes

Fairhazel feels it all on their new single Weary Eyes.  Their vibrant lush falsetto pierces as if it’s breaking through an intrusion of doubt in a moment of vulnerability.  At that moment the beat drops like a reclamation, taking Weary Eyes into realms of hope in spite of its threat to dissolve into sadness.

That feel good contrast in tandem with the beat design stylistically blends the worlds of The Verve, Wheatus, and Bon Iver.  Sounds intriguing?  It is.  Hang on for the late stage eruption, Weary Eyes is a musical journey in song.
