JW Farrell drops a soul rock anthem with his recent single Light A Fire. Raised around Philly and currently residing on the outskirts of NYC, the Tri-State artist knows a lot about Big Apple hustle. That sentiment resonates with the narrative within his new single Light A Fire.
“You lit a fire and ran away.”
That crash and burn aesthetic is currently the American standard. Our European friends know that taking on life slow and steady reveals life’s grace. JW himself keeps it steady with a string of consistent releases that certify his sound. Light A Fire is the perfect ear worm to bring a fresh audience into his catalog. The inspired contribution from backing vocalistic Julea adds to the Americana Soul appeal. Paired with JW’s own vintage growl, Light A Fire bridges the gap between Orville Peck and Grace Potter, while paying homage to Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett. Get some.

Faded Shades are convincing on their recent What I’m on About. The band captures the essence of classic garage rock. They wear their influences without stepping on anyone’s toes. It’s a reflection of the riffs simple but effective progression, and the convincing candid nature of the vocal performance.
In that way we hear an influence of icons like The Who, The Kinks, and The Stones. They adapt that influence with some added 90s Retro futuristic energy, a trait known to Brian Jonestown massacre and their associated bands. We can dig it.

Some like it darker. It’s the sentiment that drew us into Gateway, the new single from IPANAZAR. This glorious gothic shoegaze blend is incites a malicious sexual energy. It’s a testament to the singers sultry seductive nature. She’s arguably more of a spiritual guide than a singer, with her voice barely tracing the melody. It’s border lining on spoken word, but it retains a musicality and it works. When lurking beneath this furious musical vibe, the contrast is exhilarating.
The singer herself gives into the tension with an inspired scream in the songs final moments. We freaking love it. Gateway is a vibe, and resonates with the bands prescribed influences of The Breeders and Sonic Youth. But IPANAZAR updates that influence with a dark, brooding aesthetic. Isn’t it lovely.

We were drawn to the gorgeous vocal counter melodies that illuminate the harmonious palette of Flood The Harbour, the new single from Kai Tak. Shoegaze with a darkwave heart, Flood The Harbour is a curious kind of dreamy. It’s that intriguing trait known to Gothic music; that blend of beautiful and dark.
The immersive layered guitars and droning synths ring with rich overtones. It’s meant to be soaked into, to be played loud so that it can engulf you completely, and so that you can get lost in its electric beauty. Stylistically we hear a blend of My Bloody Valentine and Polica. It’s that cool.
