The Empty Page give into the madness on I’m a white Hot Blade (Witches are Wicked). This slow burn erupts with nostalgic fury. It’s likely to draw comparisons to The Bends era Radiohead. We’re quite happy about it.
We’ve wondered where this influence drifted off too. The Empty Page embrace all the passion and unhinged fury known to that iconic record. We also hear a delectable influence of Bjork. It’s energizing. The Empty Page features a vocalist who’s able to howl on pitch in a way that’s convincing. As if she’s tamed her own beast. We’re big fans.

You thought you knew songwriter Gemma Hayes, but as her new single shows, she’s more complicated than one song can show. “We’re all Hardwired.” It’s that nihilistic honesty that sealed our adoration for her new single Hardwired. Relentless dramatic builds create rapturous tension on this anthemic breakthrough. Hardwired is a revelation. It blends elements of indie rock and synth pop convincingly. In that way it connects with releases by Sharon Van Etten and Arcade Fire. Like them you can trace a classic punk influence. It’s permeates within this vibe.
Gemma Hayes brings a performance full of swagger and reckless attitude. It’s a rebellious nature. It reeks from the inspired vocal performance and infects everything around it. The arrangement and melody swings in tandem with the singers emotional presence. In concert, the resolutions could go on for lightyears, like an indie rock LCD Soundsystem. Once the infection takes hold, you just want more of it.

We dig the sultry stomp and holla jive heard on House on the Hill, the new single from Italian trailblazer Claudia Buzzetti. The artist elegantly cites a waltz in a way that nods her cultural influence, while offering some refreshing angst and attitude within that vibe.
There’s a scorn to the vocal performance that reigns vintage and maintains its melodic truth. The vocal is treated with vibrant saturation in a way that reflects the production palette known to Jack White. We also hear a classic influence of Jefferson Airplane and Janis Joplin. It’s a reflection of her psych rock Americana blend. We think it’s brilliant.

If you’re going to adapt the blues modern, we’ll take it in the form of Secrets, the new single from Sera Lilith Gold. She takes a classic feel and bends it modern, adding all the angst and swagger known to Amy Winehouse and Alabama Shakes. Like them she feels authentic within a classic vibe.
There’s a lot of soul to this blues, a testament to the iconic influence of Aretha, Janis, and Otis Redding. They just don’t sing like this enough anymore. Sera Lilith Gold made us feel something. It’s a killer arrangement too, with inspired orchestration that builds in tandem with this milestone performance.
