Retro Pop Revival – WHOLE, Waves_On_Waves x Solar Burst, Babywolf, Holy Wire

We love the rich contrast heard on Valson, the new single from German synth pop project WHOLE.  It’s accented by songs upbeat tempo despite its melodically dark essence.  It suits the singers complex dynamic.  His affect is a combination of new wave and post punk.  The combination is exhilarating and cites an influence of Duran Duran, The Cure, and Tears For Fears.

The composition alters that inspiration with its abstract essence, one that offers some complexity to an underground audience hooked on adapted surprise.  We simply adore it.

Waves_On_Waves x Solar Burst – White Doves

Waves_On_Waves advances his reputation for epic collaborations with the new single White Doves, a collaboration with Solar Burst.  A sparkling dose of synthwave courtesy of the bright synth sounds employed throughout, Solar Burst still finds a way to inject the unlikely influence of Pink Floyd into this vibe.  It’s a testament to the songs vocal performance, and it’s not far fetched. Pink Floyd did have some influence on wave despite what the post punks might tell you.

We also hear the influence of Simple Minds in both the vibe and dramatic aura.  No matter how you hear it, you can’t deny it’s infectious brilliance.

Babywolf – Burn Down The World For You

Babywolf keep it epic on their recent Burn Down The World For You.  This is how we imagine Linkin Park might have sounded if they made a synthwave album.  The outcome is exhilrhating.

Babywolf honors Park’s underrated sonic vibrance too.  The mix simply punches you in the face.  Burn Down the World For You offers Synthwave some fresh commercial rock potential, a reference that’s propelled by the shredding guitar solo.  We can dig it.

Holy Wire – The Ending Of An Age

If you’re going to write a song about lovers trying to survive an extinction event, it’s only fitting to produce it in the manner of 80s style new wave alternative.  Holy Wire slam dunks the task with their recent The Ending of an Age.  Stylistically it’s a gorgeous homage to new wave, melodically citing its influences and adapting them with their own unique touch.

Visions of New Order and Human League appear in tasteful doses, as well as an indie sensibility familiar to Future Islands.  The videos a vibe too, as the team makes great use of lighting to enhance illuminated nostalgia.  This is dystopian bliss.
