Best New Hip Hop – Felix Hein, C.Shreve The Professor, Nick Grant, DEFIED

German producer Felix Hien has done his homework.  The old school vibe of Just My Luck is simply brilliant.  It’s crazy catchy and reflects the rare influence of Arrested Development and De La Soul emphatically.  It combines that with some of the lyrical spiraled prowess familiar to Eminem courtesy of guest rapper and collaborator Blacc El

It’s no happy accident either.  The pair’s other collaborative single Burn One Down is equally magnetic.  It’s got the swagger of Jay Z with a chill beat fit for a blunt session.  We’re big fans of this sneaky German import.  Wassup with Felix Hien?  And where did he find Blacc El?  The team’s got our attention.

C.Shreve The Professor – Break It Down

C. Shreve the Professor caught our attention with his new single Break It Down.  We were drawn to the passion he brings to the performance.  It’s a trademark track full of candid lyrical revelations of an inspired tirade.  It resonates with the throes of an existential crisis, as the artist examines his crews shared trials and finds the folly in your false assumptions.  Get smart.

The vibe resonates with his influences like  Mac Miller and The Roots.

Nick Grant – Frienemies

Oh snap here comes those Frienemies again.  Perhaps you’re familiar with the camouflage ops.  They’re an elite group and they’ve earned a proper tribute in the new single from Nick Grant.  The rapper spares no one on this inspired rap attack.

Push a true MC too far and get the wrath.  Grant keeps its real to a T.  Some of these truths are painful, watch yo’ back.  Stylistically we hear an influence of Kanye and Andre 3000, an affect that’s enhanced by the infectious chorus.  Check it out.

DEFIED – Beast

Beast is a slow burn that delivers.  The verse on the new single from DEFIED doesn’t hit you out the gate, but once the rapper hits his stride it’s straight fire.   Vocalist JJ Watts (Jamie Joong Watts) and rapper/songwriter Vs. (Matthew Richer-Miller) are the team behind  DEFIED. Their new single Beast features an inspired tirade, an affect that’s amplified by the emotional nature of the performance.

The beat fits the notion, as the Beast feels contained by the soulful voice that prowls throughout the song.  It’s like the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the next.  Don’t let the Beast take over until it has to.
