Emerging Folk – Melanie MacLaren, Air Traffic Controller, Ha Vey, Lucie Hill

Melanie MacLaren grabbed our soul on her new single Heaven Is.  She describes the song as an existential crisis in the middle of a summer backyard bbq.  If you personify that statement you’ll see our spirit animal.

MacLaren channels some of the energy she brought to last summers cover of The Swiming Song and her previous Summer in Sweden.  Her catalog features some of the best melancholy summer anthems.  Heaven Is stylistically bridges the gap between Big Thief and Brandi Carlile.

Air Traffic Controller – Anybody Got A Light

Air Traffic Controller caught our attention with the performance video for their single Anybody Got a Light?  A magnetic indie folk aura throughout, the charm erupts in the songs hook.  Foretold by the songs self explanatory title, the overall arrangement captures the reference effectively.

The thoughtful full band arrangement reflects the narratives community aspect.  We’re stronger together.  Anybody Got A Light?  Let’s lift each other up.  Stylistically the vibe bridges the gap between The Tallest Man On Earth and The Decemberists.

Ha Vey – Nature’s Bride

Ha Vey recently dropped her new album Baby I’m the Wolf, so it should come as no surprise that we adore this project.  The lone wolf is both on our logo and a firm part of our indie mantra.  There’s a bit of a wandering wolf in all of us.  The sentiment rings true within the vibe of her new single Nature’s Bride.  A coming of age existential struggle feels rooted in this inspired performance.  It’s the ideal musical escape for your internal shouts fighting to break convention.

The album cover mirrors that notion, as it features the artists seemingly screaming to the sky rising out of brush water.  We imagine she held her breath just long enough to feel control.  The artist embraces an influence of Stevie Nicks and combines thats with a modern indie folk vibe somewhere between Fleet Foxes and Weyes Blood.

Lucie Hill has a rich timbre.  It’s a magnetic presence that lands intoxicating.  It suits the slow burn of her new single Holding The Space.  Once you’ve lost yourself within her poetic aura she throws the vibe into hyperdrive.  The song closes with an immersive sonic arrangement.

The production style mirrors her mission to redefine pop as therapeutic.  Her voice and producers touch are the ideal vessel to bring that vision to reality.  Holding The Space is a reflective moment we can all find peace in.  Her voice engages you carefully like a musical guide to help you leave behind the quarrels of the day.  It delivers in the songs late musical cleanse, with stacked vocals that present her in a metaphysical light.   We think she’s likely to connect with fans of Imogen Heap, David Gray, and Bon Iver.
