Emerging Folk – Jules Ahoi, frans asthma x Qozy, The Keller Band, Luke De-Sciscio

German recording artist Jules Ahoi is a rare breed.  His new single Magnolia might draw immediate comparisons to Nick Drake courtesy of his swift guitar playing, orchestral arrangement, and tempered vocal performance.  We also hear an influence of the work of Andrew Bird and Jose Gonzalez.

Like all of them Ahoi has the ability to capture an essence of the spirit in song.  His subtle accent adds a cool exotic twist, a detail that will surely bring fans to his altar.

frans asthma x Qozy – Pretty Out

We love the new single pretty out from frans asthma and Qozy.  There’s a creepy beauty to their vibe that offers elegant contrast.  Its the vibe Brian Wilson hoped to capture before he resolved to singing about God and Sailors.

pretty out is both beautiful and weird, and it has won another big endorsement for one of our favorite underground writers.  frans asthma has a killer catalog, and this collab is guaranteed to lead us into the work of San Francisco artist Qozy.  The buzz is legit.

The Keller Band – 66 Motel

The introductory vocal line pulls you into 66 Motel like a magnet.  As the song adapts it proves it’s worth over and over again.  The new single from The Keller Band is a milestone release.  They capture a feeling within a refreshing nostalgic construct.

They’re impressive talent as singers and harmonizers combined with an intriguing composition blends the aesthetics of The Lumineers and Father John Misty.  Where they go from here we can’t wait to hear.

Luke De-Sciscio – Only A Woman Knows

When we think of the the majestic singers we’ve come across over the last few years, Luke De-Sciscio is included. His quivering vibrato, full of conjured emotion, resonates like an indie folk Roy Orbison. It’s catching on too. With his undeniable talent De-Scisco has carved out a small fanbase. His new single Only A Woman Knows is the kind of reenforcement a new fan hopes for. Dig deeper and you’ll discover a wealth of imaginative writing and stand out performances.

A quick glances at his IG and you’ll find an artist within the throes of first Fatherhood. The new single has that kind of omnipresent selflessness that comes with first love for a child. De-Sciscio appears to be embracing this new transition and its unselfish nature. His performance on the new single is indicative of a man that recognizing the grace of giving yourself fully to something even if it means giving up what you thought was your only a purpose. New Fatherhood at its best inspires a new purpose that’s more meaningful, but the rewards are different. It’s no longer about the attention you’re giving by the masses, but knowing that you truly gave yourself to something sacred. Only then might you find peace in your final moments.
