Best New Indie – The Indigo Echoes, Proper Youth, Stinkus x Ocean LeClair, Audrey Mac

The Indigo Echoes caught our attention with their new single Burning.  We can’t get enough of this 80s inspired indie rock vibe.  The Swedish import offers their own flavor to this stylistic soup, blending a sonic palette familiar to The War On Drugs with the vocal delivery of Josh Ritter or Dawes.  We can dig it.

Burning is the second single leading up to a September album drop.  We’re ready for it.

Proper Youth – Local Gravity

A Star Is Born in the video for Local Gravity, the new single from Proper Youth.  The band features a pair of frontworthy artists who appear stronger together.  Local Gravity features the band’s vibrant female lead.  She’s the 80s alternative Steve Nicks equivalent in this Fleetwood Mac style lineup.

The reference is mostly in terms of dynamic, as the firecracker that is Amy Nesky deserves a new level of admiration.  Her energy is magnetic and guaranteed to rally the crowd in concert. Stylistically she’s more of a hipster Siouxsie than Nicks in essence, while the song recalls the writing of The Cure and The Smiths.  We’re big fans of this project.

Stinkus – Falling In Love

They call themselves Stinkus and their new single Falling In Love helps it all make sense.  It’s a coming of age anthem that battles between realms of self doubt and self assurance.  It wears an emo influence within an indie pop aesthic while offering something more courtesy of the cinematic duet.

We were already fully invested by the passionate male vocal, but the complimenting contrast of the unexpected female lead from Ocean LeClair pushed all of our chips to the middle of the table.  Falling In Love is the kind of song you’ll leave on repeat.  Coming in just over two minutes, its short stature only leaves you wanting more.  We think it’s a sure thing for fans of Petey and Alex G.

Audrey Mac – American Dream

Audrey Mac marries her passions for songwriting and activism on her new single American Dream.  “Land of the free, home of the brave – How do you sleep at night.”  Mac is taking no prisoners on this seething portrayal of the American Legacy.

In this heightented time of political turmoil and with one side enjoying a renewed moment of national patriotism, Audrey Mac sings with a sultry contempt.  She adds contrast in the songs dreamy, seductive aura.  Her voice is intoxicating, not unlike the opium of the massess. On the cover photo you see her doused in blood donning a flag bikini; this is high art.  Every detail is perfect.
