Emerging Folk – Noa Jamir, SoCal Jack, Lily Kershaw

Noa Jamir caught our attention with their new single Nights.  The singer has a haunting lush voice blessed with a twinkling twang fit for lullabies.  It’s the kind of voice that conjures emotions. It paints a picture of the person though you’ve never seen their face.  It’s full of personality, and Noa Jamir controls it elegantly.

The composition is dreamy too, with some nice variation and melodic surprise to keep the dreamy affect evolving.  We adore it.

SoCal Jack – Tinker, Tailor

We were drawn to the contrast heard on the new single from SoCal Jack.  Get a gander of their new single Tinker, Tailor.  It’s instantly catchy while the buried somber vocal and the nostalgic nature of the melody cleverly cites an influence of 80s alternative.  In that way it blends the aesthetics of The Lumineers and The Cure.

It’s a curious blend that enwraps you in the catchy magnetism of the sing along vocal part.  Including the banjo in the arrangement emulates a chugging train and the spirit of the troubadour.  Altered with a punk underground sensibility, it’s easy to like.

Lily Kershaw – Call Whoever This Makes You Think Of (Except Your Narcissist Ex)

We’re gearing up for the release of Lily Kershaw’s upcoming album Pain & More, which is due out 9/13.  The magical songstress has dropped another teaser in advance of the big release.  Her new single says a lot in the songs cheeky title.  Call Whoever This Makes You Think Of (Except Your Narcissist Ex).  Her ability to keep it real enhances her lyrical touch.  Her voice is intoxicating and on its own it could bring most to their knees.  It’s somewhere between Natalie Merchant, Norah Jones, and Adele.  She is truly a great singer.  The video’s a nice touch too.
