Retro Pop Revival – prisms, Allan Fox, Le Mal, Moon Kissed

We were thrust into an interpretive dance at the onset of fairy drugs, the new single from prisms.  The vibrant vocal design amplifies the chemical appeal.  A post punk style guitar progression over this kind of electro inspired beat adapts the vibe retro.

It’s a clever combination of something new and something used, referencing a melodic sensibility familiar to both indie rock and 80s alternative.  Stylistically it connects with Max Fry, Vestron Vulture, and Provoker.  We think it’s brilliant.

Allan Fox – Neighborhood Kids

Neighborhood Kids is catchy to the core.  Allan Fox already has a retro pop hit under his thumb.  He takes it one step further in the impressive performance video, one that flaunts his multi task attention as a musician.  He’s a master of many mediums, but most notably he slays the pad.  The dudes got rapid fire spider precision.

Stylistically Fox throws some indie rock flare on a synthwave vibe.  In that way it connects with releases by Bleachers and The 1975.  We can dig it.

Le Mal – Red Maple Door

We dig the lofi aesthetic Le Mal brings to their new single Red Maple Door.  There’s an authentic nostalgic brilliance to the collective work.  From the arrangement to the stylistic sonic design, everything is in its right place on this honorable throwback.

The parts bear a creative credo with calculated attention felt in every contribution.  For us it recalls the experimental roots known to Joy Division and later New Order, before the lure of pop success tainted the underground.  Some like it darker.

Moon Kissed – Cycles

Moon Kissed get visceral on their new single Cycles.  An inspired tirade recalls the traps of dating cis men.  The convincing vocal performance feels like it resides on the cusp of a freak out, honoring the songs classic synth punk lineage.

The synth choices are especially nostalgic, elegantly referencing underground breakthroughs like The Cars and Tubeway Army.  Like them, Moon Kissed have commercial potential without compromising their offbeat personas.  It’s an undeniable curiosity, one that’s amplified in the songs period perfect music video.
