All New Rock – Marilyn Maria, LordJag, Gunshots or fireworks, Vacant Weekend

We found the reckless raw fury we crave in Self Help Tape, the new single from Marilyn Maria.  The verse vocal is a revelation.  This is a musical supercharge.  Its an energizing affect suitable to break the monotony of a ritualistic daily trap.  Need to break out of your existential prison?  Marilyn Maria could be your guide.

The bass riff between the ecstatic guitar part amplifies the erratic brilliance.  Stylistically the project adds some righteous recklessness to an influence of IDLES, Viagra Boys, and The Clash.

LordJag – Faces In The Floor

We adore the imaginative arrangement heard on Faces In the Floor, the new single from LordJag.  The vocal part matches the musics rare design.  The artist has a signature guitar style.  It’s gritty and sonically rich while retaining its ability to showcase his creativity and attention as a player.

The drums are a nice compliment, and respond in tandem with tasty syncopated riffs that accentuate every melodic spark.  Stylistically it connects with an aesthetic familiar to Khruanghbin and Alt J.  Like them, LordJag is doing something unique to them thats still accessible and ripe for a breakout.  We can dig it.

gunshots or fireworks – Greetings from anywhere

Gunshots or fireworks drop their anthem with their new single Greetings from Anywhere.  It’s a trademark statement that both connects them with their audience as well as their scope of influence.

“Are you suffering alone.”  It speaks to a disenchanted turn of the century generation raised on the last radio dominant period in rock and now lost in the haze of current commercial conundrums.  In that way it bears an influence of Foo Fighters or Weezer with an added emo sensibility akin to Death Cab.  We love it.

Vacant Weekend – Proud of You

We were drawn into the eruption at the onset of Proud of You, the new single from Vacant Weekend.  The emotive whiplash comes quickly, as the band resolves to a contemplative resolve before thrashing back into an energetic outburst.  It’s a progressive tension we find exhilarating.

Every progression is worthy too.  It’s all killer, no filler.  The performance is collectively youthful while the singer has some natural soul to match their indie rock instincts.  Stylistically they connect with an influences of Two Door Cinema Club and Viola Beach.  Keep an eye out for this buzz worthy breakthrough.
