Retro Pop Revival – Brittany Bindrim, Elephant Kind, Permadeaf, Carrellee

If you’re going to blend an influence of industrial, synthwave, and electro pop; then you can’t do much better than Hearsay.  The new single from Brittany Bindrim has us imagining how the Eurythmics might have sounded if they were produced by NIN.

In that tradition it’s both catchy than dark, and it’s never all warm and fuzzy.  It’s an infectious electric vibe that we find glorious.  Get into it.

Elephant Kind – Lionel

Oh damn that’s fresh.  That was our instant reaction when the vocals hit on Lionel, the new single from Elephant Kind.  The artist embraces the songs namesake with an 80s R&B pop feel that lands authentic.

Besides the adorned Lionel Ritchie, we also hear the influence of Michael Jackson and Prince.  It’s a testament to the songs clever melodic movement within this refreshing pop aesthetic.  Get nostalgic.

Permadeaf – Hold

Permadeaf stays true to synthwave’s golden era with their new single Hold.  They’re carving out their own space within this vibe, adding a dreamy melodic alteration courtesy of their ethereal vocal style.

It’s less about remembering and more about searching for what comes next.  It’s that futuristic underlayer known to new wave and reimagined with new sonic precision by synthwave first heroes.  Stylistically we hear evidence of The G and Sunglasses Kid.  Vibe with us.

Carrellee – Bonnie and Clyde

A new more modern electric Bonnie and Clyde gets immortalized in the single from Carrellee.  Like generations before her, Carrellee embraces her disruptive nature by channeling the reckless narrative known to these folklore icons.  She dresses it in a classic electro 80s production style with rare nostalgia via the soulfulness in the chorus section. It’s in that moment that we hear the rare influence of Tina Turner.

The verses add some moody contrast with a Lana Del Rey style poetic reverence.  Carrellee is on the eve of a big tour this fall.  Get into the new single and go see her in concert.  We’re big fans!
