Linda Dunnavant is inviting on her charming new single Hidden Lake. A lucid indie folk epilogue channels the small time experience impressively. She makes deserted suburban landscapes sound so dreamy.
Melodically the song stands strong on its own two feet, but the lyrics make it iconic. Stylistically it recalls the writing of Paul Simon or more recently Darlingside with some of the modern affect familiar to Clairo or Kacey Musgraves. Everyone needs a Hidden Lake.

Rosalie James recently released her debut album, Full of Chemicals. An overall eclectic indie triumph, the new album elegantly displays her rare lyricism, melodic expression, and intoxicating voice.
We’ve previously featured more upbeat works like Girl I Was, but for today’s focus we’re looking at the single My Nature. Effectively produced, the primarily bare arrangement evolves beautifully. Rosalie has an inclination towards the cinematic. It suits her progressive touch and honors the journey embedded into her storytelling. Stylistically My Nature bridges the gap between Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver, with some of the heavenly vocal presence familiar Angel Olsen. We adore this project.

Swedish singer songwriter Sarah Klang is worth the buzz. She has a unique voice that she controls elegantly. It bridges the gap between soul and classic rock. She’s like an Al Green and Stevie Nicks love child. It suits her indie pop inclinations, and amplifies the softer moments in her catalog intensely. You can hear all of it on her new single Last Forever feat Fruit Bats.
The writing is unique and refreshingly unfamiliar. It retains its broad interest courtesy of Klang’s undeniable timbre. Her performance prioritizes feeling over presence, much like the aforementioned Green’s own candid touch. You want to be there with her for as long as she’ll let you. The arrangement erupts in its second half, as the indie folk essence gives in to Klang’s emotional urgency. It’s fitting, as the moment begs for the band to respond in this way. Stylistically it sounds like Klang backed by The Band. We’re big fans.

Lara Taska is vintage cool on her recent Silk and Lead. There’s a confidence to her vocal delivery. Its full of conviction and empowered youthful dissent. It’s an empowered indie folk anthem. It wears its influences loosely while standing out courtesy of her own inspired take.
Stylistically we hear the modern influence of Big Thief with some added catchy contrast familiar to upbeat urban folk realms. Silk and Lead is a whole mood, a soft fury that prefers to stay within a realm of peace while ready to fight at a moments notice. We can dig it.
