Music Videos We Love – zinha, Ohvaur, Color Theory x &Tilly, Humdrum Book Club

It’s easy to get enwrapped in the vibe of so blue, the new single from zinha.  Expressive textured percussive production creates a rich rhythmic layer.  It lands itself to multiple dance aesthetics intriguingly.

As a vocalist zinha is equally eclectic, wading between worlds of R&B and indie pop elegantly.  Stylstically this work bridges the gap between Lake Street Dive and an indie dance pop influence familiar to The 1975.  The music video does well to channel that energy.  Initially pensive, it trails abstract before rising to a fever in its final moments.  This Portuguese alt pop buzz artist should be on your radar.  Find out, just press play!

Memories are complicated, especially when they are slowed down and offered in a retrospective flurry.  The sentiment is amplified in the music video for Altered Endings, the new single from Ohvaur.  The images navigate the complexities of a long term relationship.  For some the disappointment is too much to handle, and for others it’s the pain they caused that forces them to see the error of their ways.

Shot and edited with artistic interest, this indie rock anthem shines as the backdrop for this impressive mini movie.  Stylistically the song should connect with fans of A Perfect Circle. Keep swimming.

Two artists who we’ve regularly featured on this blog have teamed up on a new single and we are kind of freaking out.  The dark electro brilliance of I Cannot Rain is everything we hoped this collaboration could become.  The artists are Color Theory and &Tilly.  Both projects are known to trail the boundaries of dark nostalgic music, with Color Theory leaning more synthwave and &Tilly leaning more Trip Hop.  Likewise, both have carved out their own space within those aesthetics and embraced the additional influence of industrial pop.

I Cannot Rain is a hypnotic synthesis of their auras and those stylistic blends.  Its intention is dually honored in the expressive music video. Featuring the dark magnetism of &Tilly’s frontperson, it’s gloriously stylistic and fairly vague in the spirit of classic music videos.    This is about style, and they’ve got a lot of it.

Humdrum Book Club knows how to make a proper music video!  The group goes full Tromeo in the video for their new single Boyfriend.  We adore this cheeky B movie aesthetic.  It’s goofy retro horror fun and it works.  The stylistic editing effects amplify the reference.  Shot in this manner the homemade costumery is absolutely convincing.  It’s narrative reflects an Elephant  Man style romantic dread, one where science and the heart collide dangerously.  The songs a catchy retro synth pop blend that blends the worlds of Windows 98 and Tigers Jaw.

Boyfriend is just one flavor from their stylistic cup.  Their genius proliferates on their single 1997.  A blend of classic horror and sci-fi reigns fantastical in this brilliant storyline.  What great imaginations they have!  The song its catchy too!
