Best New Indie – Dork, The Big Drink, Lone Tells, little bit

They call themselves Dork, and this Danish artists new single Legs is rare catchy nostalgia.  The vibe is likely to draw favorable comparisons to early Sheryl Crow.  It’s a cool reference and one we don’t get to employ often.

It’s worthy of the association too.  It’s a testament to their candid cool nature and vintage lyrical insight.  You can hear the classic legacy of Tom Petty and Velvet Underground at the root of this sound.  We can dig it.

The Big Drink caught our attention with their new single Unobtainable.  Maybe it’s that first lyric, but for us this is a very spiritual musical moment caught on tape.  There’s a sense of spiritual discovery reflected in song.

It’s a dreamy escape too, with notable sonic treats that land cinematic.  Stylistically we hear an influence of Peter Gabriel and David Gray with some modern indie pop sonic inference.  We’re super into it.

The singers exotic timbre is enough to lure your curiosity on Weird Life, the new single from Lone Tells.  It’ll draw immediate similarities to Jose Gonzalez and Nick Drake.  He bridges their legacies elegantly, while offering some new production rhetoric to that vibe in the vein of Sufjan Stevens.

It’s a beautiful blend of natural and modern electric.  The soft build rises to a fury in the songs emphatic ending.  Hold on for life, it’ll be a weird one if you’re lucky.

Every ounce of long drive by little bit is inspired by the tempered fire of the vocal performance.  The singer settles smoothly into the mix as the band settles in around her.  The melodies and layered harmonies are collectively serene.

There’s a refreshing charm to this vibe, one that recalls projects like Alvvays and Best Coast.  The band swings that influence towards an inclination of 90s modern rock alternative, adding a modern indie melodic twist.  Hear for yourself.
