Emerging Folk – Stefan J Selbert, Sam Lynch, Luke Sital-Singh, Gown

We’re drawn to the candid raw emotion heard on Henry’s Jokes, the new single from Stefan J Selbert.  Their vulnerable delivery sounds inescapable, likely to infect everything they touch.  It helps to chronicle the emotions their writing reflects.  The song is catchy too, with an entertaining sufferable lyrical construct.  It hurts to play the fool, and it’s relatable.

The narrator finds some solace in that relatability.  It’s the songs charming brilliance.  In that way they bridge the gap between Fleet Foxes and Daniel Johnston.  That’s love.

Sam Lynch caught our attention with the release of her new single Hurt.  Produced in this manner the song bears an infectious vibe.  It’s catchy, wading around an indie pop aura while retaining a singer songwriter sensibility.

Hurt absolutely stands strong on its own two feet, but we do think it presents magnificently when paired with its music video.  Together they’re a collective triumph.  Lynch herself siezes her Movie Star moment.  This is a milestone release.  There’s something about Sam.  We’re into it.  Three cheers for the production staff.  Hurt is brilliant.

Luke Sital-Singh and Lisa Hannigan immortalize Sante Fe in their recent single.  This retrospective journey reflects the fury of time lost.  Looking back you wonder why you didn’t get back to the places that defined you.  Sante Fe is righteously somber and simultaneously beautiful.  The sentiment is enhanced by the inspired duet.

Hannigans raw textured delivery compliments Luke’s soft smooth approach.  Together it’s a vibrant blend full of life experience.  Stylistically it’s a sure things for fans of Gregory Alan Isakov and Sufjan Stevens.  Hang on for its final groovy release, a haunting feature that leaves room for glorious improvisation in concert.

Gown embraces their 50s influences and adds some modern youth in the demo version of their single TONIGHT.  The lofi presentation adds to the overall feel.  It warps the vibe slight creepy and bizarre in tandem with this seasons spooky legacy.  The nostalgic essence receives like a lost recording, a sentiment amplified in its final failing moments.

Stylistically we think it connects with artists like Beirut, Alex G, and Dr Dog.  We can dig it.
