Emerging Folk – Cat Rose Smith, catfish jr, Leah Nawy & Arthur Walsh, Happie & The Human Experience

Cat Rose Smith claims her existential truth on her recent single What I’m For.  The song is an anthem for anyone whose future has ever been claimed by another.  It’s appropriately sad much like the dread that comes with breaking the news to someone confused that it’s time to do something for yourself.  It’s not about how much you love them, but about loving yourself first.  Life’s too long not to give yourself a shot.

The project is a triumph, with the arrangement effectively executed by members of Niall Horan’s band on guitar and bass.  We’re not surprised he’s likely delighted to give them his blessing.  Cat Rose Smith is an intoxicating singer and imaginative songwriter.  Stylistically she’s a sure thing for fans of Adrienne Lenker and Lucy Dacus.

It seems like everything that comes out of catfish jr features an automatic ear worm.  The emerging indie songwriter is infinitely catchy.  He initially caught our attention with the indie pop brilliance of how it is again.  He owns our hearts still with two recent indie folk singles that equally slap.  The initial in my head is blessed with a cool groove sway.  It’s a notably melancholy switch up from some of his other fun work.

The indie folk fetish returns on his recent because I’m high.  Catchy lyrical sentiments are amplified by his candid effortless delivery.  Both singles are genuine and refreshing.  We think they’re sure things for fans of Lumineers, Houndmouth, and Dawes.

We love the cinematic brilliance heard in the duet on Here Again, the new single from Arthur Walsh and Leah Nawy.  Their voices compliment each other effectively.  Hers offers a smoky haze while his brings robust character.

Even in unison the complications of romantic perceptions breaks through.  Their collective charm is magnetic wrapped up in the arrangements nostalgic folk pop package.  Stylistically they bridge the gap between Billie Eilish and The Shins.  It’s adorable.

We’re big fans of singer and recording artist Happie. Her recent collaboration with The Human Experience us true to form. We got lost in their new single East Horizon.  The haunting vocal performance is otherworldly.  Basked within echo, it’s as if it’s being performed within a Cathedral.

More than just a great vibe, East Horizon is a catchy composition through and through.  The phrasing is addictive.  Stylistically we think it connects with fans of Jose Gonzalez and Lily Kershaw.
