Best New Indie – Bestfriend, Windser, clairice, Skuff Micksun & TyC

We love the energetic release that erupts from HEADSTART, the new single from Bestfriend.  The initial tempered verse offers a nice setup ahead of the chorus sections explosive rapture.  The lightning escapes from the bottle and touches everyone on this infectious gem.  If energy was ever the optimal template for an effective hook then this song takes first place.  It’s front to back thoughtful in its attention to detail and in how it combines talent with fury.  No wonder they landed on the label Nettwerk, a hotbed for some of our favorite emerging Indies.

This has the impact of recent breakthroughs known to Del Water Gap or songs like When We Were Young by Fun.  If a proper stream sync deal and swallow the profanity, this one’s gonna take flight.  Say you heard it first.

We adore the passion at the heart of Abandon, the new single from Windser.  The performance is convincing.  It’s as if you can hear the burst of inspiration arrive and the mic just happened to capture it.  It’s the kind of trademark performance that lands iconic.  It could define them.

Abandon is the perfect opener or closer at every show, and absolutely the ideal song for a moment where you need to be memorable.  Their love for performing and creating shines in the effective coastal performance video.  We love all of this.

An imaginative approach to the production value illuminates every moment of Getting Better , the new single from clairice

This is where the 80s thought they were headed before they got derailed by the nineties.  In that way you can hear the influence of Kate Bush and the effect it had on similar projects like Charlotte Day Wilson or Christine and the Queens.  Getting Better lands effectively in that realm and we’re forever grateful for it.  We love that style, and clairice has the vocal talent to lift it to great heights.  Fall for her.

Sometimes pop music is so convincing you start to wonder about the barriers between mainstream and an undeniable hit.  That’s how we feel about Movin’ On, the new single from Skuff Micksun and TyC

There’s a fair commercial sensibility to the melodic essence and production style, but it’s so damn authentic and genuine we wouldn’t have it any other way.  They find the middle ground between Petey, Post Malone, and Macklemore.  The music video adds to their authenticity. It’s awesome.
