Emerging Folk – Ella Jinks, Riot Of Me, Giant Hand, Boy Ferguson

We love what we’re hearing on, “Just Another Day,” the new song from singer-songwriter Ella Jinks. The progression and melody of this song give it a uniquely soulful quality. This isn’t something we typically hear in acoustic-guitar based tracks and it’s refreshing.

The ambient tones in the back of the track give it a Radiohead vibe and the soulful core reminds us of artists like Daniel Caesar. We’re going to give this one just another listen. And then another after that.

We’re “FALLING” hard for this new single from Riot of Me. The poignant acoustic guitar and vocal arrangement at the core of the song is elevated by impressively dreamy production. Distant harmonies and other ambient tones on the track create a beautifully longing texture that only gets more ethereal as the song progresses and we love how it hypnotizes us.

If you like Post Malone’s more alternative stuff, we think you’ll like this song a lot too. Riot of Me has a pretty active Instagram with music updates and awesome videos of candid performances.

If you haven’t already, listen to “Chemicals” by Giant Hand. No, we mean really listen to it. A song with this level of writing prowess deserves the utmost attention. And while you contemplate the sheer poetry at work, let yourself feel moved by the song’s atmospheric indie-folk backdrop.

Maybe it’s the refrain of “slow me down,” but something about this track compels us to take a few deep breaths. It’s a sure thing for fans of Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens.

If you’re looking for a song that can really transport you somewhere, look no further than this new single from Boy Ferguson,I Found You Dead.” It starts out spare–acoustic guitar, vocals, and some ambient lead guitar–and progresses to a much fuller arrangement as the story of the track unfolds. Some songs go in a circle, from point A back to point A. This song goes up a hill from point A to point B and every step of the hike is interesting.

The vocals on this track are killer, and the way the song is built around them reminds us of a few fellow solo-songsmiths: Ed Harcourt and Sam Fender.
