Best New Rock – EEVAH, PUSH, Buddy Wynkoop, Sophia Warren

EEVAH caught our attention with their recent single Lullaby.  The moody groove is enough to steal your gaze.  Paired with the singers impressive vocal delivery, Lullaby is a revelation.  Its a convincing dose of revival rock, embracing elements of classic alternative and making it feel fresh.

You can hear a trace of U2 altered by the singers modern sensibility.  Her voice is at the level of a Florence Welsh or Hayley Williams.  It’s a testament to her ability, but she’s bringing her own rare ability to this vibe.  We simply can’t get enough of it.

You’re going to love this new single from Tulsa, Oklahoma-based indie rockers PUSH. “dog days (over it),” is a force. We find ourselves head-bobbing along as soon as we press play and we only get more into it as the song progresses. It has that sort of unceasing drive.

We can hear someone at the end of the recording saying “so much fun to play,” and the fun totally shines through in the performance.

PUSH does a great job of mixing harsh instrumentation with tender, dreamy vocals. This makes them a great addition for any of your shoegaze-inspired playlists. Maybe slot them in next to a band like Wolf Alice who also infuses a fair amount of groove into their noise.

We were drawn to the built up aggression at the onset of Grin.  The angst and tension is the first detail that draws you into Sophia Warren and her adapted musical misery.  As the song progresses it rises beyond the feeling and into progressive intriguing realms.

Grin is a smart composition full of surprise and dynamic appeal.  There’s a hint of nineties Breeders style influence mixed with QOTSA and an added melodic traits familiar to indie pop.  We’re super into it.

You have to check out “9-5 Disease” by Portland, Oregon-based art-punks Buddy Wynkoop. It’s the type of song that makes you giggle as you sincerely utter “that’s badass.” We hear a lot of Devo influence in this track, but we also see where it stops. Buddy Wynkoop make excellent use of the stereo space that they have available and incorporate an eclectic range of instruments on this track, making it an exciting listen.

“9-5 Disease” is part of the recently released album Better Than Botox. Be sure to check out the whole thing. We’ve also heard that this group puts on a pretty awesome live show. If you happen to live in the Pacific Northwest, sprint to their next gig.
