Who is Raptor Jones and what is Sand City? The new single from MoCity Jones is great fun. The Sand Pit (Raptor Jones) takes rap back to its rapid rhyme rich roots. Emulating a rap battle, the new single plays with the dope and the whack intriguingly. MoCity Jones impressively channels multiple personalities. He shows he knows what bad rap is. The content resonates with themes of imposter and fraud within the rap community. Do you know what good rap is? The new single challenges you in a manner that pushes the rap community forward. We can’t keep acting like these whack bastards are good. Stylistically we hear elements of late nineties conscious hip hop mixed with old school entertainers like Jurassic Five. Sand Pit is one banger off of the artists new concept rap masterpiece, Sand City. WE can dig it.

Let’s talk about “case files (with Will Kobus & 4KPHIL.)” by MelodicDissonance. The loop that drives the track has that essential boom bap rhythm, and there’s a lo-fi quality to the melody that brings a freshness to the song’s more traditional elements. We love how well this vibey canvas pairs with the song’s quick and precise lyricism. And the bars go mostly uninterrupted from beginning to end, giving the track an impressive intensity. It’s a sick display of skill.
We think fans of other East Coast-inspired modern traditionalists like Joey Bada$$ will love this one. There are twelve other tracks on MelodicDissonance’s new album Alura’s delus!on, and we can’t wait to check them out.

C.Shreve the Professor stays true to his names on Where’d I Go ft Tab-One and Scottie Royal. Every contribution on this track is full of infectious style and true rap brilliance. Beyond the poetic flow and magnetic cadence all rappers bear a unique lyricism worthy of underground acclimation. The first verse is driven by a search for truth in a convoluted hip hop construct, one where the culture has ransacked poets of their authenticity. The mid verse reflect that aggression and frustration in a way that rallies the crew. Front to back the new single is invigorating while retaining its urban aesthetic. We’re big fans.

Akassia and True Mendous caught out attention with the funk fresh feel of their new single Hand In My Pockets Part 2. UK rap ain’t nothing new, but it still lands exotic here in the states. The accent adds an interesting punk appeal. That tough clan persona gets amplified by cinema, but there’s something about that UK twang that lands tough. True Mendous embraces the notion with a wicked rap tirade that takes no prisoners. They’re going after posers and deadbeats alike, all while staying stylistic and musically pomp. We’re into it.
