Mikayla Menzies conjures a difficult experience on her impressive new single Misery. The talented songstress shows her poetic might with this convincing narrative. She weaves together a relatable experience and a way that screams truth. She wraps it up in a vibe that mirrors the influence of Lizzie McAlpine and Phoebe Bridgers. Its a good place to be, as Menzies toes the line between indie folk and the singer songwriter canon. Her talent is undeniable. Hear for yourself.

Pennyfloater caught our attention with their new single Newspaper Man. Full of conviction and the wear of a life well suffered, the singer finds the feeling to give authenticity to this narrative. Its broken and tattered but still standing strong on its own two feet. There’s a fair ready comparison to Zach Bryan in their vocal style, adapted with an alt indie folk inspiration in the resistant nature of the composition. We dig it.

Its not often we share something as iconic as a cover of Wildflowers. The treasured Tom Petty classic has found its way into everyone’s setlist at some point. Its ruthlessly simple and relatively telegraphed for its time, but something about Wildflowers feels genius. Its a timeless obvious hit, executed beautifully by singer Sarah Darling. The Iowa native has carved out a nice career. She adored by those who’ve witnessed her excellent on the Ole Opry stage. If you need a Wildflower alternative, this is the one.
