Undiscovered Gems – Sterile Cuckoo

Sterile Cuckoo’s new album, “Until All The Flocks Are Gathered,” is truly captivating in
the shoegaze genre. It is reminiscent of Salvia Palth and Slowdive, using a dreamy mix of tones
on the guitar and vocals. The somber lyrics and instrumental feel make the listener feel both at
peace and contemplative. This album is the perfect soundtrack for thinkers and yearners. The
highlights of this album are track 4, The Ghost of Saint Helena, which is for fans of Beach
House. The song puts you in an ethereal atmosphere, like you are swimming peacefully
underwater.

Track 5, Grave Memories, is one of the multiple instrumental tracks on the album. This is
the track you should listen to if you want to be in a dreamlike state, where you are dancing on
top of a cloud. It feels like true bliss, unaware of an unconscious state. It then ends with a
creepy feel, as if your blissful dream has been interrupted. Moving to track 6, Marienberg, feels
like once you have awoken from that dream, and are now meant to face your reality. Feeling like
multiple songs in one, it represents different moods while moving throughout the day, from a
slower to more upbeat pace, but keeping a lingering melancholy feel throughout the whole song.
The album finishes with Track 8, Flocks Are Gathered, referring to the title of the album.
It gives space to reflect on the emotions the album brought about. The echo of the vocal
harmonies mixed with the strings moves you to an understanding of completion. This final track
is as if the entire album is a journey, and you have finally reached your destination. It feels
uplifting and makes you excited for new beginnings, but it doesn’t forget what brought you here.
Overall, the soundscapes of this album are captivating and have a powerful ability to intoxicate
you with emotion.
