Emerging Folk – Matt Storm, Will Orchard, Nick Kingswell

Matt Storm attempts to come to terms with his 2 Selves on his new release. It’s an enchanting song at its essence. A sense of piece is derived from the bare arrangement of a classic lounge piano crawling peacefully beneath the guide of his voice.

His timbre is smoky and hazy. It finds the middle ground between Ray LaMontagne and Gregory Alan Isakov. Like both of them, Matt Storm conjures a lifetime of feeling through his voice. It’s the songs defining trait and absolutely a reason to dig into it. Have at it.

We adore the imaginative arrangement offered on Nothing Fog, the new single from Will Orchard. An amalgamation of influence blends the realms of art pop and indie folk elegantly.

Stylistically you can trace an influence back to the Talking Heads, through the ascent of Local Natives and Grizzly Bear. All bands who we adore, and all who Will reminds us of a little. It’s just a really neat song where every element catches your ear. From the intricate guitar work to the erratic drum rolls, Nothing Fog is a rich new musical world..

Nick Kingswell caught our attention with their new single Pictures of the Moon. This indie folk vibe conjures memories of Simon and Garfunkel, while adapting well into the modern underground canon. It’s a harmonious aura with a dreamy reverence that mirrors the Moons own remark ability.

There’s a lullaby campfire essence lifted by the western hue of the lap steel. Beautifully produced and wonderfully executed, Pictures of the Moon resonates with the snapshots of your life.
